Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses to come forward

A taxi driver needed surgery following a serious assault near a Surrey McDonald's branch.

Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses following the incident in Redhill on Friday morning (December 3).

The force said the assault took place at around 8.40am in The Arcade near McDonald's, and the victim suffered injuries to his foot which required surgery.

The suspect then reportedly ran off towards the alleyway opposite Redhill train station. He is described as black, 5ft 10in tall, of a medium build, with a goatee beard, and was wearing black clothing.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has any other information, to come forward as soon as possible."
