Dashcam footage shows the men attacking the car

A taxi driver was left in shock after a man hurled a chair at his vehicle.

Having arrived at Bath Racecourse to pick up a prearranged fare, driver Noah Daniel Pop was approached by a group asking for a lift.

After declining the offer as he already had a booking, one of the individuals threw a chair at his vehicle.

Mr Pop, who works in mainly in South Gloucestershire, claimed that another man then started punching the window and trying to break in.

When he first arrived, someone in the group had claimed to be the name of the person Mr Pop had arranged to collect. But it soon transpired they were not the correct people when they asked him to go to a different destination. Mr Pop then asked them to leave his vehicle, which is when the party turned violent.

He said: "They started to take a picture of me in the car and to say that they didn't need me anymore.

"I wanted to leave and one of the gentlemen came out in front of my car with a seat in his hand. I realised what he wanted to do and I tried to avoid him but he stopped me and started hitting the car with the seat.

"After him another gentleman started punching the window trying to break it".

Having been scared by the attack, Mr Pop then called for help.

He said: "I talked to a lady there and I told her that I was afraid and to urge someone to help me.

"I have to repair the car and I don't know if anyone will pay for the damages".

Officers are now attempting to track down the men in the footage.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “We’re investigating an incident in which a taxi was damaged at Bath Racecourse at around 2am on Sunday (December 5).

“The taxi driver had gone to pick up a fare, when another group approached the vehicle. When the driver declined to pick them up, as he was waiting for his arranged fare, a chair was thrown at his vehicle causing damage.

“If you saw this incident, or have information on who was responsible, please call us on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5221285384.”
