Pi$$ poor headline below in my opinion - makes it looks like a deliberate attack by the taxi driver, while the article itself suggests otherwise. Not sure if my thread title is much better, though

Tried looking for the official Cheshire Police appeal to see how they framed it, but couldn't find anything. Could well appear on their website later :?

Man attacked and run over by taxi at Stockton Heath

DETECTIVES investigating a serious assault in Stockton Heath, Warrington, are appealing for members of the public to come forward.

A 55-year-old man, from Runcorn, was standing at a taxi rank near to the Red Lion pub on London Road when he was attacked by a group of young men.

He was then left in the road while the group of men got into a taxi. The driver of the taxi is believed to have run over the victim’s leg before driving away from the scene.

The assault occurred at approximately 12.30am on Sunday (December 5).

The victim was taken to Warrington Hospital by another taxi and remains in a serious but stable condition with injuries to his head and leg.

Detective Constable Leah Greenacre, from Warrington CID, said: “The victim sustained serious injuries following the assault and is currently in hospital.

“We are piecing together the circumstances that led to him being attacked and who is responsible.

“I believe numerous people were in the area at the time the assault occurred and may have information. I would encourage you to please contact us if you have not yet spoken to an officer.

“While we are reviewing CCTV I would ask anyone with footage including dash cam to get in touch if it could assist with the investigation.

“I would also appeal to the taxi driver to contact us as well to help with our enquiries.”

If you have information please contact Cheshire Constabulary online quoting IML 1150706.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Presumably the driver would have been aware he struck the victim. Wonder if he's come forward or been traced? You would think it wouldn't be too difficult to trace him, although it's not clear from the article whether he's actually been identified :?

Headline on Cheshire Live is a lot better, and even manages not to metion the t-word. But even if it did (as per the square brackets below) it would be a bit more clear that the driver just struck the victim after the assault, and to that extent doesn't automatically attribute any blame to him.

The article otherwise looks almost identical to the one above.
