Well there's doing people a wee favour now and again, but something not quite right about this. I smell a rat, and think there's something we're not being told.

Other problem with this kind of stuff is that it makes us look like thieving barstewards if we don't give a freebie under similar circumstances

And, I mean, they were going to a gig - it's not as if it was a 'mercy dash' to hospital, or someone had lost their purse, or were on their way back from the foodbank in the pishing rain, or whatever

The black cab driver turned off his meter to help out the woman who wasn't familiar with the town

A woman visiting one Merseyside town for the first time was blown away by an act of kindness.

Hayley Bane, from Birkenhead, travelled to St Helens on Friday, July 22 to attend the Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott gig at the Totally Wicked stadium. Along with her friend Emma Jones, the pair found themselves unfamiliar with the area and opted to park their car at the nearest car park they could find.

This was at a Premier Inn hotel around an hour's walk from the stadium. After having some lunch the friends attempted to ring a taxi, but were unsuccessful- so set off on foot.

Managing to hail a black cab. Hayley explained the situation and was moved by the driver's actions. She told the ECHO: "We got in and the driver set off for the stadium. We got chatting and the driver asked us where we staying there and I explained that no, I had just paid to park there.

"The taxi driver said there are plenty of places closer to the stadium where we could park. Then he turned off his meter, took us back to the Premier Inn and said to me to follow him. He led us to Marshalls Cross Lane, where we parked about a five minute walk to the stadium, and he left without charging us a penny.

"He left before we could even thank him. I would love to get in contact with him so we could say thank you."

Hayley took to social media in an attempt to track down the kind driver, and her post has received many comments applauding his actions. One comment said: "Great advert for our wonderful town and hopefully you enjoyed the gig, I certainly did."

So he picked them up, drove a bit, then took them back to the Premier Inn car park, then drove almost one-hour walking equivalent with the women following in their car. So must have driven several miles for nothing

At the very least I'd guess he was going in that direction anyway

Personally I'd maybe have taken a pound or two off the fare, but that's about it
