Presumably these three are among the operators who *aren't* overrun by work and *can't* cover jobs due to a shortage of drivers

But at least it's all moved on from 'driver-partners' to operator partners

Same old quotes from the 'local cab partners', though, presumably funneled via Uber's comms department...

Uber to let people book taxis with Greater Manchester cab firms to cope with 'high demand'

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk ... r-23387550

The company says it will take a 'small service fee' on each trip

Uber will let people in Greater Manchester book taxis with local cab firms as part of a new app.

The ride-hailing service says it has partnered with several locally licensed operations to launch its 'Local Cab' service in the region today (Tuesday, March 15).

Uber, which launched in Manchester in 2014, says it will help to 'meet the high level of demand' for taxis. Passengers can now book trips with Street Cars, Lynx Taxis and Tameside Taxis, which are the three firms involved in the partnership.

The Local Cab option will appear when booking a ride alongside other choices including UberX, Exec, Comfort and Lux, Uber said.

Riders who choose the Local Cab option will not get an 'Uber' as such as the driver and vehicle will be from the respective companies in the programme.

The local operator sets the cost and cashless payment is made via the app as usual, Uber said. However, Uber takes what it describes as a 'small service fee' on each trip.

The arrival of the Local Cab app follows a series of previous launches in towns and cities across the UK, including Edinburgh and Peterborough.

Naveed Arshad, director at Street Cars and Scott’s Cars, said: “We look forward to making Local Cab available to the people of Manchester. We feel that now, more than ever, a product like Local Cab is needed – with demand for taxis continuing to rise and passengers in need of more options.”

Ehsan Shakeri, managing director at Lynx Taxis, said: “We’re making it quicker and easier for people to get around Manchester, connecting more passengers with taxi drivers via the Uber app.”

Jason Deakin, director at Tameside Taxis, said: “The partnership with Uber is also enabling us to provide further job opportunities to our drivers and we hope it will attract new recruits to join our fleet.”

Jamie Heywood, Uber’s regional general manager for Northern and Eastern Europe, said: “Manchester will be among the first cities in England where riders can access both UberX and Local Cab in the same app.

"This will help maximise earnings opportunities for drivers while giving passengers in Manchester more choice, meaning that everyone will benefit. We’re looking forward to launching Local Cab in more UK towns and cities soon."

But will the fee being paid be a fee under an agent arrangement or a principal arrangement? :-k

I doubt it'll make a difference as they are probably ALREADY paying VAT

Never heard of Timperley myself, and it's the usual 'comms' quotes from Uber etc.

But interesting how Uber now using the Local Cab scheme to spread its tentacles across the whole of the Greater Manchester area :-o

Timperley used to be part of Cheshire, according to Wikipedia, but now part of Trafford MBC :?

Timperley taxi business on board with Uber's Local Cab scheme

A TAXI firm in Timperley is one of six operators in the region to sign up to to a partnership with Uber.

Passenger Cars' partnership with the app started on Monday, March 28, and it means passengers in the area are now able to choose them as an option alongside the standard UberX and UberXL cars.

The scheme, Local Cab, started in the city centre earlier in the month, but Timperley's Passenger Cars is now on board as well as other taxi firms in Bury, Bolton, Burnage, Manchester and Oldham.

It comes after a successful pilot scheme last year in some of Uber's other locations in the UK.

Ray Tandy, owner of Passenger Cars, said: "The partnership with Uber is also enabling us to provide further job opportunities to our drivers and we hope it will attract new recruits to join our fleet."

Jamie Heywood, Uber's regional general manager for Northern and Eastern Europe, added: "We were thrilled to launch Local Cab in Manchester earlier this month – rolling it out further across Greater Manchester was the natural next step.

"This will help to maximise earnings opportunities for more drivers and provide passengers living across the city region with greater choice when booking a ride."

According to Uber, anyone who uses the Local Cab option will be booked in direct with a local operator. All customer support is also handled by the local operator.
