A pensioner was sat in her home watching telly when a car smashed into her garden wall and burst into flames.

Susan Hogsdon believed that she was safe at home when the terrifying crash happened, which destroyed her front garden wall and narrowly avoided her house in Deighton Road, Huddersfield.

The pensioner told YorkshireLive that she "could have been in a lot of trouble" if the car had smashed through the wall of her home, as she had been just metres away watching telly at the time.

Susan said: "I was watching Chloe on BBC on iPlayer. I heard a bang and looked out of my window. I saw two young men jumped out and ran off. I didn’t think anything of it and continued watching TV.

"A neighbour called Diane from across the road ran over and shouted 'Sue, Sue, get out!'

"The crash had set the Uber cab on fire and there were flames everywhere. They were worried that there might be an explosion and I would be hurt."

Susan's own car was parked just inches from the blaze, but she has thanked firefighters from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue for putting the fire out in time to save her own vehicle from being damaged.

She said: "[The] wall and fence [are] down, but I think my car's alright thanks to the fire brigade. Thankfully I'm alright, I could have been in a lot of trouble."

The scary crash happened around 11pm last night (Sunday, February 6).

Susan added: "One of the lads was laughing as he jumped out of the car as if it was all some huge joke."

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said that it is believed the crash is linked to another crash that happened just moments earlier, in Chestnut Street.

The spokesperson said: "Police were called to an incident on Deighton Road, Huddersfield, at 10.49pm last night in which a vehicle was involved in a collision with a property.

"The incident followed what is believed to be a deliberate road traffic collision involving the same vehicle and another vehicle on Chestnut Street moments earlier.

"There were no reported injuries following the collisions and officers are making enquiries to establish the facts relating to the incident.

"Police believe this to be an isolated incident and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed one or both collisions to contact West Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference 1633 of 6/2."

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Uber has been contacted for a statement in relation to the crash.

So she carried on watching Chole on the BBC iPlayer, until she became aware there was a fire? :-s

So there were 'flames everywhere' until the firies arrived and put them out, and her car was only a few inches away, but no damage? :-s

And certainly looks close enough in the photo :-s

Joyriding is one thing, but deliberately hitting another vehicle ups the ante a tad :-s
