Manchester Evening News going to town with this, with a live update page, shedload of photos etc. The live updates seem to have finished, but still no sign of concrete information, and the nature of the incident still hasn't been officialy confirmed. Two forensics tents can be seen in the road covering a silver Skoda taxi. It's thought police were called to the scene on Mary Street at about 9pm last night. An onlooker said: "The police have tried to cover up a taxi with two forensics tents but you can see a bit of the passenger door." Unconfirmed reports suggest a taxi driver was seriously assaulted It's thought the incident relates to the serious assault of a taxi driver. so it's a PH and they are referring to the driver as a cabbie that aside I hope the driver is ok

In fact, this says the driver was discharged from hospital after treatment for a 'superficial' head injury. Police were first called to a disturbance on Langston Street in Manchester, near Strangeways at around 8pm, February 8. A small cordon was erected around a silver Skoda taxi, which had been left damaged in the incident. The cordon remained in place overnight into Wednesday, as two forensic tents were put up to cover the vehicle on Mary Street. Glass was pictured beside the car, with the driver side window smashed. Enquiries had established that an altercation had occurred between a male and the driver of the taxi. The driver, 35, was then assaulted and the car was damaged in the incident. He was taken to hospital with superficial head injuries but has been discharged following treatment. No arrests have been made and police have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing. How he became to be injured is not yet known, but Greater Manchester Police have been approached. head injuries are always treated as serious as they can often be fatal

I suspect the person they are looking for is someone they are desperate to catch. Not necessarily for this matter, but maybe for other more serious stuff. Otherwise the whole matter doesn't make sense to me.
