Glasgows "Old" Cabs Face Being Driven Off The Road http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/hi/news/5053166.html No skin off my nose - I always drive a newish car, though, why can a 1981 Fairbody Taxi whatever they are called be classed as more of a safety feature than say a 1999 Toyota Avensis? The mind boggles.... |

Less than 10% of cars are over 7 years old, so what's the problem?
And as for them saying this; A city council spokeswoman said: "There is no doubt the age of the vehicle plays a prime role in whether it is safe to carry the public - or be on the road at all. Well let's see the evidence.

Well I'd certainly feel safer as a passenger in a brand new Mondeo then a ten-year-old one.

Yes, but presumably Mr Plonker is less likely to crash in the new Mondeo with its ABS, traction control etc, and if he does crash then hopefully all those airbags will save the day

Its great how Glasgow City Council have the time to plan action on non-existent dangers like this, yet they haven't done a thing about the unlicensed limousines & their unlicensed drivers despite Strathclyde Police asking them to do so over a year ago |

True mate - some guys dont give a toss, but then the guys who DO look after their car are getting penalised and forced into getting drip. As I have said, I always run cars relativly new - and really look after them inside, outside, mechanicly and otherwise. Does this look 5 years old with 148k

I thought that all councils where getting rid of the fairways due to the doors opening the wrong way, I'm sure i read something regarding this in pH monthly and I think that its to do with European legislation |
