Rather than the pretty meaningless numbers here, would be more interesting to know why some zones are getting a rise, while others aren't. Of course, maybe it's to do with the trades in each zone, but that's not clear from the article. Or it could be a timing thing :?

Taxi fares set to increase as council reviews prices

The South Lanarkshire zones which will see a rise in costs are Clydesdale and East Kilbride.

Taxi fares in South Lanarkshire are set to rise as the council reviews prices in the area.

There are four licenced zones in the council area for taxi services and the local authority is proposing to apply an increase in fares in two of them.

The zones which will see a rise in fares are Clydesdale and East Kilbride, while charges for taxis will remain the same in Hamilton and in Cambuslang and Rutherglen.

Currently, in the Clydesdale zone, the cost of a taxi or private hire car fitted with a taxi meter is £3.30 for fares not exceeding one mile – the council are proposing to raise this to £3.40. The average two-mile hire is £5.30 and it is being suggested this should increase to £5.80.

As well as this, for each additional 88 yards travelled, it is being suggested to raise the charge to 12p from 10p.

Currently, in East Kilbride, the fare for a taxi that does not exceed 880 yards costs £2.90, and the council is proposing to raise this to £3.20.

On top of this, a charge of 30p is added for the next nine additional 293 yards. The council are hoping to change this to 20p for the next 14 additional 189 yards.

This would see the price of an average two-mile hire increasing from £5.60 to £6.

Fares in the Hamilton zone will not be changed, meaning the price for an average two-mile hire will remain at £5.20.

The same goes for Cambuslang and Rutherglen, the average cost of a two-mile hire will be £5.60.

The council says anyone wishing to make representations in reference to the proposals can before April 10.

It added that it intends to consider any representations lodged and will carry out a review.

Which, of course, demonstrates another reason the PHTM tables can be a bit misleading. In fact, the relevant entry is labelled South Lanarkshire (Clydesdale), indicating that the other three zones aren't represented.

Ironically, it's currently 311 in the tables. Above it at 310 is South Kesteven, which I have it on good authority is a tad misleading as well  8-[

How can you have different rates within the same district, albeit different zones. ](*,)

Are food and fuel cheaper in one area? Are social money and pensions cheaper in one area?

Talk about making things harder for everyone to deal with.
