Not wholly clear what this business is all about, but the headline says a 'taxi driver for vets', which brings to mind some sort of pet transport service, thus unplated.

But by the looks of the door sticker, it's a PHV.

Google doesn't throw up much except a phone number, 'taxi' service etc, so I'm guessing it's a one-man-band PH operator who's kind of 'pet friendly' or whatever.

Anyway, apart from that, it's not something that happens every day, and it looks like a simple error rather than some sort of ID theft, or whatever, but even that's not entirely clear :?

But if it hadn't all been sorted out he would have failed the 'vetting'

Oldham taxi driver for vets shares shock after driving ban in mistaken identity case

A TAXI driver from Shaw has spoke of his shock after being told that he was banned from driving due to speeding in a case of mistaken identity.

Pete Bromley, runs his own firm Pete’s Cars, which transports animals for vets across the borough and further afield.

But earlier this month, he received a letter from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), informing him that he had been convicted of a driving offence and was disqualified.

Baffled and in shock, Pete, 60, who has never committed a driving offence before, discovered the alleged speeding offence happened in August last year in the Solihull area, near Birmingham.

He checked his work diary for the date and found proof he was working across Oldham that day, nowhere near where the incident reportedly took place.

After speaking to Birmingham Magistrates’ Court, where the case was processed, he discovered that the person who allegedly committed the offence shared the same name and date of birth as Pete.

But the address was completely different and the court and DVLA soon realised an error had been made.

An apology email was sent by the court including extracts which said: “Please be advised that due to your driver record number being input onto another driver’s court case, it appears that an endorsement was put on your driver record in error.

“I apologise for any inconvenience or distress caused by this error.”

Pete, who has run his business for 14 years, said: “It was frightening when I got the letter from the DVLA.

“When I told the court my address over the phone they were a bit stumped.

“They said they will get back to me, but I said it needs sorting today because of my job.

“It was two days before I got an email from the court apologising about the mistake and I had to tell white lies to some of my clients when I explained I couldn’t do some jobs in that time.

“My councillor Chris Gloster, who I know well, was really helpful in sorting it out and making calls for me.”

Pete said he felt a great sense of relief but was also left angry with the way the case was handled.

He added: “Something needs to be done about the system.

“They cannot go for someone on just their name and date of birth, obviously that is not enough information.”

Speaking about his role in helping Pete, Cllr Gloster said: “Pete who is a Shaw resident contacted me as he was having no success in getting anyone to listen.

“However, it was pretty clear after I'd spoken to him that this was a case of identity theft or misuse of his data.

“And fortunately I was able to speak to the right people and uncover the mistake, which led to him being told he had been disqualified, when in fact it was someone else with the same name.

“This could have had a devastating effect upon Pete's business and livelihood had the mistake not been uncovered.

“Scarily, had he not contacted me, there appears to be no simple solution to resolving unless you know how the system works and can actually get someone to listen.

“I am happy that Pete's unblemished record has been reinstated and he is now able to work again.”

The DVLA said the courts system, which has been approached for a comment, are to blame for the error.

You rang the court and they emailed you canceling any points/fines.

Mistakes happen, and getting you confused with someone who shares your name and date of birth isn't really top of the tree when it comes to mistakes.
