Some will say the taxi driver should have avoided any arguments with the driver, but when private car drivers park on ranks it drives cabbies mad. I say well done to the cabby, even though this could easily have turned violent.

POLICE are investigating after a taxi driver in Tunbridge Wells was racially abused while at the town's main train station.

Medhat Khechine says he was working last Tuesday, March 15, when a Range Rover pulled into the bays restricted for taxi use.

“I told him he wasn’t supposed to park there and that he would get a ticket as it was only for taxis but he then started to racially abuse me,” he told the Times.

Mr Khechine recorded the two-minute rant by the driver on his phone, which he has forwarded to the Times.

“It was shocking. After he left people came up to me and told me I should report it to the police, so I have,” he said, adding: “To be honest, it is not the first time. It is sad to say but we taxi drivers get a lot of racist abuse at the rank, even here in Tunbridge Wells.”

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “We were called at around 9.30am on Tuesday to a report that a man was being racially abusive to a taxi driver at Tunbridge Wells railway station."

"The suspect and victim had both left the scene prior to officers’ attendance. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
