While since I've heard the phrase 'lost the plot', and certainly not as part of newspaper editorial (as opposed to a quote, or whatever), but it's in here.

And presumably it's the newspaper's choice of words, rather than parroting the police's statement.

But police do use a word to describe the perp that I've never seen used in relation to the trade before - like we'd normally use 'passenger' or 'customer', or 'punter' informally. Not difficult to spot the word.

The 29-year-old victim needed hospital treatment after a drunken brute launched the vile attack at him on Saturday.

A drunken brute launched a vile racial attack at a taxi driver and left him with slashes on his face after smashing his car window.

The 29-year-old victim was subjected to the violent assault on in the early hours of Saturday outside the Glynhill Hotel in Renfrew’s Paisley Road.

He had arrived around 2.30am to pick up a fare, but a row quickly broke out, resulting the driver needing hospital treatment.

The yob started an argument with the driver over the fare and then proceeded to hurl racial abuse at him from the back seat.

When the driver asked him to get out, the situation quickly escalated and he lost the plot.

In a rage, the thug punched the driver before damaging the car door and hurling an object through the front window.

The shattered glass then covered the man’s face and body, leaving him with multiple bloody wounds.

The suspect fled in scene and the driver attended at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he received treatments for his injuries.

olice in Renfrew have now launched an investigation to trace the man responsible for the assault and hundreds of pounds of damage to the vehicle.

He is described as being in his 20s and of tall, slim to medium build with short, light brown hair.

He was wearing light coloured trainers, dark jogging bottoms with a light coloured stripe, a dark coloured shirt and a dark jacket.

Officers investigating the assault are carrying out a number of enquiries, and are urging anyone with information who may have witnessed the incident to please get in touch.

A spokesman from Police Scotland said: “Officers are currently investigating an assault which took place at the Glynhill Hotel, Paisley Road, Renfrew around 2.30am on Saturday, March 26.

“A 29-year-old man needed hospital treatment after being subject a racial attack from a patron.

“The assault resulted in the victim being left with multiple injuries to his face and the suspect caused further damage to the vehicle by damaging one of the rear doors and smashing a front window.

“We would ask anyone who may be able to assist officers with their enquiries to please get in touch.”
