Police issue statement as man stabbed in terrifying taxi ambush in Huddersfield

Two men have been arrested following a terrifying attack on a man who was stabbed in the hand after his taxi was ambushed close to Greenhead Park on Saturday afternoon.

An eyewitness said the taxi had one of its windows smashed in during the attack. The man was sat in the taxi at the time and two men have been arrested.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Enquiries remain ongoing following a serious assault on a man in Huddersfield on Saturday. Police were called to Gledholt Road close to Greenhead Park at about 3.55pm on Saturday, April 16, to a report two men had approached a man sat in a taxi and attacked him with a bladed weapon. The man suffered hand injuries.

"Two Huddersfield men, aged 23 and 28, were later arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding. The men have now been released on bail pending continuing enquiries.

"Anyone who has information about the assault is asked to contact Kirklees CID on 101 referencing crime number 13220203898." Information can also be given online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat or anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

'His taxi' certainly could be construed as meaning the taxi he was occupying as a passenger rather than one he was driving.

But in the absence of anything else suggesting that he might have simply been a passenger, my money would be on him being the driver.
