Another dodgy headline - what's an 'unlicensed area'?

Anyway, this is presumably a Bradford-plated HC plying for hire in Leeds, but that's not 100 per cent clear, except that the offence took place in Leeds. In 2019 :?

A BRADFORD taxi driver has been forced to pay hundreds of pounds after standing for hire where he was not licensed to.

Majid Hussain, of Marbridge Court in Wibsey, committed the crime in his Mercedes Vito van on Boar Lane in Leeds city centre.

The 45-year-old changed his plea to guilty at Kirklees Magistrates Court on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.

Hussain committed the offence of driving a carriage/standing/plying for hire when the carriage was not licensed as a public hackney carriage (outside London) on August 10, 2019.

It was contrary to section 45 of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847.

Hussain has to pay £640 in total, including £500 in court costs, £108 fine and £32 victim surcharge.

I suspect, as in most cases, there is far more to this than what has been reported.

Maybe the local licensing team has had their eyes on the driver/vehicle, or he was subject to a mystery shopping test purchase.

But he got caught, and those are the risks many take.
