A female passenger was hospitalised after a car and taxi collided in Stockton - leaving the taxi on its roof.

Two crews from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) were called to reports of a road traffic collision at 6.22pm on Rochester Road, in the Roseworth area of Stockton, on Saturday May 28.

Cleveland Fire Brigade helped free the female - whose age is not known - and ambulance crews requested the help of the Great North Air Ambulance, but she was taken to hospital via road ambulance.

A spokesperson from the fire brigade said: "We were called to a road traffic collision on Saturday, May 28, at 6.30pm on Rochester Road in Stockton. Two fire engines attended from Stockton, with police and ambulance crews at the scene. One person extricated by crew and then passed on to NEAS - we left the scene at 19.22pm."

Cleveland Police also responded to the incident on Rochester Road. A spokesperson added: "Police were contacted just before 6.25pm on Saturday May 28 by a motorist who reported a grey Skoda had been in collision with his silver Volvo S40 on Rochester Road in Stockton. An unattended parked grey Vauxhall Corsa had also sustained damage in the incident which left the Skoda overturned on its roof.

"A female passenger from the Skoda was taken by ambulance to hospital after receiving injuries however we do not currently have details of the exact nature and severity and officers have been asked to make further checks. Vehicles were recovered and the road was clear by 8pm and enquiries into the collision are on-going."

Footage from the scene showed the taxi on its roof, with glass scattered all over the road and the car badly damaged. The NEAS released the following statement after the incident.

Their spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Rochester Road in Stockton at 6.22pm on 28 May. We dispatched two ambulance crews and an officer, and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance. One patient was transported to North Tees Hospital for further treatment."
