Well this is a fascinating tale that requires careful reading, and quite a lot to unpack here, but maybe worth emphasizing a few things. First, seems that the woman was the main perpetrator of the violence.

Second, the cause of the whole kick off seems to be the male accompanying her calling the driver 'darling' and 'love'. So I wondered if the driver was maybe a woman, but it would appear not :-o

So potentially confusing, and you have to read it carefully and get to half way down the article before it's confirmed that the driver is a man. Very easily missed, but it states: "the confrontation that followed between the men..."

Ironically (and apart from the fact that he was recently convicted of a murder that happened about a year after this incident), the male's photo appears half way down the page and, er, he actually looks slightly feminine in appearance, at least as far as his hair is concerned...

Which of course raises the possibility of whether in fact Brian the murderer could have been born with a vagina but now identifies as a man, but which the Express & Star might not be allowed to point out

On the other hand, his facial hair and the width of his neck certainly suggest a biological male, but, of course, these things aren't set in stone and often not quite as the seem 8-[

Apart from that, not much to see here :-|

Woman avoids jail after repeatedly punching Wolverhampton taxi driver

https://www.expressandstar.com/news/cri ... xi-driver/

A woman who assaulted a taxi driver has been given a suspended jail term for her actions.

Victoria Hopkins, 51, and killer Brian Willington, 33, were picked up from outside Wolverhampton's Newhampton Arts Centre, in Newhampton Road, in Whitmore Reans, on October 21, 2020 when trouble flared.

After initially denying any wrongdoing Hopkins subsequently pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm against the victim.

Prosecuting barrister Mr Philip Vollans told Wolverhampton Crown Court that during the journey the driver objected to being referred to as "darling" and "love" by Willington.

He said the disagreement escalated despite Hopkins' efforts to calm the situation.

He said the driver at one stage stopped the car and asked Willington to get out, but instead of walking away Willington took the keys from the ignition.

Mr Vollans said during the confrontation that followed between the men, Hopkins, of Wednesfield Road, Heath Town, repeatedly punched the taxi driver. Willington became "more aggressive" and punched and kicked the victim who ended up on the ground. His shirt was also torn.

He said both defendants had been drinking prior to the melee.

Hopkins had committed 58 offences from 53 convictions. He said the latest offence resulted in her breaching a suspended sentence for possession of a blade for which she was jailed for six months suspended for 18 months, incorporating a prior punishment for assault.

In a separate case, Willington, of Hawkley Close, Moseley, was jailed for life last month with a minimum term of 21 years for the murder of Martin Latham, 41, in Heath Town, on September 6, 2021.

Mitigating for Hopkins, barrister Mr Stephen Cadwaladr, said she admitted that she "lost rationality" during the incident and had initially apologised for her co-defendant's behaviour.

"This is a lady who has not been dealt good cards in her life. She grew up in care. She spent much of her adult life being homeless," Cadwaladr said.

He said since the incident Hopkins was making efforts to stop drinking and was a volunteer bakery worker.

For assaulting the taxi driver Judge Simon Ward sentenced her to 11 months jail suspended for two years. Hopkins must attend 30 rehabilitation activity days and six months alcohol treatment.

She must also pay victims' surcharge £156.

"You have a bad record. You have a number of suspended terms which have not been activated, but I think you will find that may not the case next time. Comply and stay out of trouble," Judge Ward said.

Willington, who was not present at the hearing, will be sentenced for assault at a later date.

Anyone with 53 convictions from 58 offences should be locked up indefinitely as continual slaps on the wrist is not keeping those who happen to cross paths with such Scum safe.

I agree some people are just animals that need to be caged

Oh and as she was on a suspended sentence why was this one also suspended ?

Guessing the judge thinks there is a chance of her being rehabilitated.

Wolverhampton murderer must serve another eight months for beating taxi driver

https://www.expressandstar.com/news/loc ... xi-driver/

Wolverhampton murderer Brian Willington will have to serve another eight months after his life sentence has finished.

Willington, serving a life sentence with a minimum 21 years for stabbing to death grandfather Martin Latham outside Heath Town ASDA, was in court again for his part in a previous vicious attack on a taxi driver in October 2020.

Victoria Hopkins, 51, of Wednesfield Road, Heath Town, and killer Brian Willington, 33, battered a defenceless taxi driver and snatched his keys from the ignition after an argument about the terms "darling" and "love" being used.

Last month, Hopkins was handed a suspended 11-month sentence for the taxi driver assault but Willington was sentenced today at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Sentencing Willington to eight months for the driver assault to run consecutively with his current life sentence, the Justice Simon Ward pointed to 10 violent former convictions.

The taxi driver had described his fear of leaving the house and the shock and upset caused by seeing CCTV footage of the sustained attack on his head and body, the court heard.

Justice Ward said: "Taxi drivers by the jobs very nature are very vulnerable. They work alone and at night and are vulnerable. You have an appalling record of violence. This is why your sentence is to run consecutively not concurrently."

The judge left the charge of robbery on file.

After entering jail Willington has turned over a new leaf, his lawyer Aimee Parkes explained, by getting clean from drugs and alcohol.

She said: "Brian is now in the system and is getting used to being a lifer. He has a positive outlook despite his circumstances. He has been getting the support of his girlfriend and family."

However, Willington will not be able to enjoy his better relations with his girlfriend and family for another two decades.

She said: "With time served he is not eligible for parole until September 2044."

The day he murdered Mr Latham, September 6, 2021, he had been hanging around ASDA and intermittently drinking and taking drugs.

Mr Latham and Willington then began fighting in front of the superstore, with Mr Latham getting the better of the younger man. However, Willington then "saw red" and stabbed Mr Latham in a frenzy.

Willington, who denied two charges, was convicted of murder and possessing a bladed article in May following a trial for Mr Latham's death.

Willington was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years for murder, which was reduced to 21 years and 120 days taking into account the 245 days the defendant had spent on remand.

The 33-year-old, of Hawkley Close, Moseley, Wolverhampton, was handed no separate penalty for possession of a bladed article.

this is a centuries old tradition which varies from one part of the country to another over the words used what is offensive about it ? well possibly the Cornish version but even that I personally find amusing rather than offensive
