Taxi driver left injured after he's assaulted by two men in Newcastle

Police are investigating after a taxi driver was assaulted and his car damaged by two men after he dropped them off at a North East address.
Officers from Northumbria Police have issued an image of a man that they want to trace in connection to the incident, which happened at around 4am on Monday, April 11, and saw the two men use the taxi to drive them to an address on Ayton Street in Byker.
However, on arrival, it was said that both men became verbally abusive and proceeded to assault the taxi driver – a 32-year-old man – by kicking and punching him.
The two offenders then left the vehicle and entered the address they had been driven to.
It is alleged both men then returned outside and caused damage to the door and front bumper of the car.
An investigation has been ongoing since the incident, and as part of their enquiries, officers from the police force have identified a man who they would like to trace.
He was seen in the area at the time of the assault and could have information which can assist the police.
The man pictured, or anyone who knows him, is asked to contact police by either calling 101 or using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page on Northumbria Police’s website, quoting crime reference 042047K/22.
