Yeah but they are all in the back, not someone sitting next to you.

Why not license it for seven for radio and day street work, and six for night street work?

I have never seen the seating arrangement except in a Merc Vito. I think it was 4 forward facing and 3 back I could be wrong but I am sure there is someone who knows.

I think hell would freeze over before the cec would sanction a seat in the front of a Hack, having said that I would have a tendancy to agree with that line.

Jack.

Yeah Skull but thats probably a PH version, the M1 spec hackney versions on the Allied website are both three three in the back and one and two in the front respectively, now much as most of the people you pick up are a jolly decent sort :D there is an element in society that for various reasons I would not like to be in a confined space with, sad but true, and of course some of them may feel the same way about us

Was this ever considered by the Council?

You trade representatives are probably best placed to answer these questions I mean after all it is you they represent.   I am surprised everyone is not fully informed

Sorry Honest Scotsman I am not taking a pop at you but once again the people who speak on behalf of everyone seem to have forgot about the trade.

could it be because they cannot? Insurance, surely, is calculated on the number of available pasenger seats?

A seven seat metro is (or was) available.

Personally, I'd rather stick to carrying two couples at most. Certainly do not want anyone in the front with me. The E7 does not have enough room for a comfortable front seat, only a sit bolt upright jump seat. Should "IMHO" be only licensed for six passengers.

Been away, by the way, whilst my metro got a (free) re-spray, looks lovely. Hope you all didn't miss me too much. Nurenburg is a lovely place, just wish I'd been able to find 600 euro's for a ticket.

Down here we have some Fords and VWs licensed as 8 seaters, and very popular they are too.

With three up front it's all a bit cramped by all accounts - eg brushing up against the passenger's leg when changing gear

Of course the council can't license it in that way, but if the driver uses his loaf, he can work it that way.

What I have been hearing is that the Tx111 has to be fitted with ABS and it is not technically possible to have that as well as the 25ft turning circle.
Does anyone know if that is true?

I understand the Chassis has to be modified for ABS but here's what Wikipedia wrote about the old breaking system. Forget the reference to the Nissan engine because the prime consideration is speed and if you have a poor breaking system then speed will certainly find it out.

In February 1989 the Fairway was introduced. It was fitted with a 2.7 L Nissan diesel engine, making the FX4 a fast and reliable car. The braking system was perhaps not quite equal to the task and a number of accidents occurred as drivers were unable to stop safely from high speed.

Redesign of the braking system was not straightforward in view of the requirement of a London taxi to have a 7.6 m (25 ft) turning circle. In due course, GKN redesigned the brakes and suspension to allow disc brakes to be fitted at the front while maintaining the tight turning circle.

From my experience many basic comforts and safety features have been sacrificed for the Turning circle. Older models of the vehicle have been a complete disgrace and I'm surprised they even got a certificate of roadworthiness. The suspension, breaking system and road handling have all been substandard and each of those features is down to the Chassis. The only good feature of the vehicle is the turning circle and the partition between you and the customer but in my opinion that's all it has to recommend it. Are you reading this Mr Cheyne?
