Not much about the taxi angle other than the headline, but, I mean About as likely to happen as me winning the Euromillions tonight, I'm guessing, and certainly something I'd give a very wide body swerve to personally. Lock the doors, in fact Taxi service with 'pay later' option proposed for Lincolnshire https://www.lincolnshirelive.co.uk/news ... on-7305783 A report in young people's safety raised concerns on drug taking, homelessness and drink spiking A taxi service with a 'pay later' option has been proposed to help make young people feel safe in Lincolnshire. The idea was published in a Lincolnshire’s Youth Commission (LYC) report to the Police and Crime Commissioner for Lincolnshire (PCC) Marc Jones. The LYC is a group of 22 14-to-25-year-olds funded by the PCC a raise issues on policing and crime. One of the recommendations to Mr Jones was the idea for a 'pay later' options for taxi services. In the report it said: "Create transport schemes that enable young people to get home safely at night. Develop discount or partnership schemes with education settings that allow a ‘pay later’ option for taxi services." Other ideas were creating night cafés, educating young people on night-time safety and handing out free ‘drink toppers' for those enjoying the county's nightlife. Mr Jones said: “Once again the Youth Commission has carried out some remarkable work to bring the voices of young people to the fore. “The proposals put forward are thought-provoking, practical and creative and my office will be looking at them closely to see what we can action in the coming months. All of the young people involved can be proud of their efforts to ensure our residents remain, and feel, safe.” There were a number of issues raised in the report that the group said made them feel unsafe. These included drug-taking by young people in the Birchwood area of Lincoln and "human waste and bloody tissues" being left in the city centre. On substance abuse, the report states: “It is very common for young people to use drugs publicly" and “a lot of young people that live in Birchwood take drugs.” On homelessness, it says: “Regarding the issue of homeless people, I have noticed a lot of human waste and bloody tissues around the areas where the tents are. "This makes me feel unsafe in a hygiene sense.” It adds: "We need better solutions regarding the issue of homelessness in Lincolnshire. We need to get them off the streets and somewhere safe for them and to make young people feel safer.” Drink spiking is also prevalent in the report. It says when young people were asked if the recent increase in reports of spiking in nightclubs made young people more reluctant to go out, more than 92 per cent of young people in the targeted social media poll voted yes. It says: “At the moment there seems to be a lack of consequences for the people that spike others.” |

Quote: A taxi service with a 'pay later' option has been proposed to help make young people feel safe in Lincolnshire. How about a money up front scheme to make drivers feel safer? Police and Crime Commissioner for Lincolnshire wrote: “Once again the Youth Commission has carried out some remarkable work to bring the voices of young people to the fore. “The proposals put forward are thought-provoking, practical and creative and my office will be looking at them closely to see what we can action in the coming months. All of the young people involved can be proud of their efforts to ensure our residents remain, and feel, safe.” Laying it on with a trowel, much? Wonder if he's really thinks that, or if it's just a response for PR and gladhanding purposes? Maybe his real response is more like, "Kids, eh?" And that's putting it mildly

We were approached a few years ago by the police about a scheme to be run in conjunction with Chester university were by students could get a free lift home if they showed their student ID. It was limited to the city centre/studentville area. The driver wound then be paid by the university after they had opened an account with them. Needless to say, there was Zero interest from the trade and it never got off the ground.

X-ray, indeed such schemes not unusual, particularly in the bigger student towns and cities. But think they're generally organised through the students' unions, and the like, and students will have to show their matriculation card and suchlike, and to that extent the drivers know they'll eventually get their cash. And the firms involved in such a scheme will maybe also have some sort of quid pro quo in place, like some sort of exclusive phone line, or similar (at least when phone lines were a thing). But not something I'd be interested in personally, both because of the rigmarole involved, and also because the types who require such a service are often more hassle than they're worth, and basically the driver is taking on a risky passenger as regards them being 'vulnerable' etc. So the chances of a more general scheme getting off the ground for young people more generally are approximately zero, I'd guess
