Not much information here beyond what's in the thread title.

But it fits the most obvious scenario for this kind of thing. Young lad, late Saturday/early Sunday, close to the city centre. Looks like fairly fast stretch of road, too, so not difficult to imagine what happened.

Of course, big unanswered question is whether or not the driver will be charged :?

For what it's worth, this is the locus here on Google, ironically showing a black HC :-|

(Wasn't going to bother looking for precise location, because it looks like quite a long road, but by coincidence went straight to the exact locus on Streetview.)

Defo looks like the kind a road where you don't drive slowly, and the kind of road folks will walk out when rat-faced.

wide enough footpath so looks like another tragic accident someone had too much and can't walk straight

at least the driver stopped and phoned emergency services to get help quickly =D>

It’s a known accident black spot, the next turning is for the Wallasey tunnel. There are speed cameras on both sides of the road. I suppose if the driver was local he may have known where the cameras where and speeded up again.

At least two more pieces on the Echo's website, and it's the usual formulaic kind of stuff after tragedies like this. Which is all very well, but there's an implied element of gaslighting and demonising the driver in all of this, whereas he might have done absolutely nothing wrong. But whether that sort of stuff influences police and prosecutors is another matter :-|

There's a brief and more matter-of-fact article on the BBC's website, which predictably doesn't include the more emotive stuff in the Echo's pieces:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-m ... e-62284212

Also interesting is the Google screengrab used by the BBC:

Image

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it would have been easy enough for them to use a grab with the black HC in it, but whether they've left it out for reasons of objectivity or similar, who knows? Of course, that's maybe not the reason the HC isn't in the image, or they may not have noticed the HC at all.

But pretty sure this is the view used for the screengrab, although it's either zoomed in a bit, or been cropped. But the Google car is obviously in the same position as in the BBC's grab, and the HC can be seen if you swing the view round slightly (second link):

https://www.google.com/maps/@53.421188, ... 384!8i8192

https://www.google.com/maps/@53.421188, ... 384!8i8192

But it's a second or two earlier than the Streetview link I included yesterday, which is why you don't get a direct view of the HC.

But, of course, fair chance it was a PHV anyway rather than a 'taxi' in the technical sense :?

I'm not sure it does.

Clearly making a kerfuffle will ensure that this is investigated properly, but that will already be the case due to the fatality.
