Not much to see here compared to the likes of Lancashire, but looks like it's a village in Somerset, so probably not that common there.

Rock attacks on car drivers in Rockwell Green

THREE people were injured when a fist-size rock was thrown at a taxi being driven through Rockwell Green, the second attack within minutes on a passing vehicle in the same spot.

The rock smashed through a side window of a VW six-seat car belonging to Archie’s Cabs and showered broken glass over a man and two women who were passengers in the back.

All three suffered cuts and needed immediate First Aid from driver Paul Coleman, who was shocked but unhurt. Front seat passenger Chris Clark also escaped injury.

The four passengers were on their way to have a meal in the Green Dragon public house, in South Street, Wellington, but were instead taken back home in a state of shock to the new estate being built in Exeter Road.

Mr Clark said: “The irresponsibility of this action beggars belief, what if the rock had been several inches to the left and hit my friend, or the driver, just before a red light?”

The incident happened on Saturday at about 6.15 pm as the taxi was passing All Saints Parish Church and the rock appeared to have been thrown from behind a hedge fronting the allotments on the opposite side of the road.

A Land Rover Discovery driven by a man with his five-year-old daughter in the back seat had 30 minutes earlier also suffered a smashed window when stones or rocks were thrown at it in the same location.

The Discovery driver had turned around and was heading back when he saw Mr Coleman and his passengers at the side of the road and stopped to speak to them, but his identity was not known.

Archie’s Cabs owner Paul Hickinbottom told the Wellington Weekly: “This could have ended tragically.

“It is so lucky that it has not seriously injured or killed anybody. How the rock did not hit any of the passengers’ faces I do not know.

“It has got to be kids doing this. I want their parents to know what has happened and hopefully they will get hold of their kids and stop it.”

Mr Hickinbottom said the driver of the first vehicle to be attacked has said he called police but they would not respond, saying that the culprits would have gone by the time they arrived.

However, police attended the scene shortly after Mr Coleman reported the taxi attack but were not able to catch anybody.

Mr Hickinbottom said: “The police do not seem to do anything so it is no wonder kids think they can get away with it.”

Struggle to argue with that.
