Thought three years seemed quite stiff for what happened, but she's obviously got history, but it's as if there's a bit of the narrative about her history missing from this article
Back seat passenger grabbed taxi driver by neck and stole his night's takingshttps://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north- ... i-24849321Lyndsey Royce, 29, has been jailed for robbery following the Wrexham incidentA back seat passenger grabbed a taxi driver by the neck then stole his night's takings. But Lyndsey Royce was later identified and caught.
The 29-year-old, of Connor Crescent, Wrexham, admitted robbery and a judge at Caernarfon Crown Court today jailed her for three years.
Prosecutor David Mainstone told how taxi driver Djamel Rouibah had been working a night shift for Speedie Cars in Wrexham on Saturday, November 28, 2020. At 11.45pm that night he was instructed to pick up a woman called "Amy" from an address in Marchwiel and take her to Wrexham.
Mr Rouibah drove his Volkswagen Passat car to Marchwiel. Three women - the defendant Lyndsey Royce, her mother and an unidentified woman - got in with a dog.
All three sat in the back seat, with Royce in the middle and her mother immediately behind the driver. The court heard that when they got to Wrexham they asked the fare - which they would have been told when they booked the job - and Mr Rouibah said it was £6.60.
The defendant's mother gave the driver a £10 note and he gave her change. She asked how much the fare was. He said £6.60 and she said she had given him £20, said the prosecutor. He disputed this and as the £10 was being held up the defendant's mother snatched it from his hand.
He was asked what the note was that he had dealt with before and when he held up another £10 the mother snatched that too. The prosecutor said Lyndsey Royce then "grabbed his neck and pulled him back into the seat". The women were shouting and swearing at him.
The third woman then got out and went around to the driver's door and opened it. Her face was close to Mr Rouibah's and she was swearing - as he was still restrained by Lyndsey Royce.
The prosecutor said Royce suddenly let him go and grabbed the remaining takings. About £180 was stolen from inside the central arm rest.
The three women and dog moved away and Mr Rouibah rang police. Officers arrived. Another taxi firm helped him identify Lyndsey Royce and she was later arrested. She gave no comment answers in a police interview.
In a victim statement Mr Rouibah said he was off work for weeks after his ordeal. He and his partner were going to spend those night takings on a short holiday which had to be cancelled. He used to enjoy his job but is now fearful. However, he can't find any other work.
Simon Rogers, defending, said the robbery had not been premeditated. It began as a misunderstanding by the mother and her daughter then reacted.
Royce has had a troubled background. She lost her infant daughter in 2014. In 2017 the hospital accepted partial responsibility. In custody she has completed a Level 1 hairdressing course and wants to become a barber.
She also wants to put her drug and alcohol misuse and offending behind her, added Mr Rogers.
The judge Her Honour Nicola Saffman said only a custodial sentence was appropriate.
She said: "Whilst he (Mr Rouibah) could have fought you off he did not do so because he did not want to use force against females. This has led to his shame.
"You stole his entire night's takings" and it has had a "terrible psychological impact".
He also had to pick out Royce from an identity parade.
She said Royce will serve half the three-year jail term, with the other half served on licence. She must pay a £190 statutory surcharge.
