Uber drivers fume as 'outdated maps' see them cop bus lane fines

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/m ... s-24961263

Fuming Uber drivers are being sent into bus lanes and forced into U-turns on Birmingham's streets because of outdated maps, they have claimed. Some said they had even been fined after being directed into no-go areas. The company is investigating.

One Uber driver, who has been with the company for the last two years, told BirminghamLive he had made bosses aware of the problems with a number of calls but claimed nothing was done. He said: "It is becoming a big problem for drivers in Birmingham. We are receiving jobs and follow Uber maps to pick up a customer but the maps are now outdated.

"Uber maps send you through bus zones and no entry roads and makes you do U-turns when you don't need to. I live in Birmingham and I am used to the problem with the maps now and which roads should be avoided but some drivers who come in from outside the area to drop people off and have been fined for going inside the bus zone area.

"I have made a number of calls to Uber to tell them about the problem, saying the Uber maps need to be updated but nothing has been done. This has been going on for six months.

"I have cancelled some jobs because it often means you may have to go two miles out of your way to pick up the customer. They tell me I shouldn't cancel so many jobs but when you agree to a price and you end up having to go miles out of your way it is not right. They need to sort this problem out.

An Uber spokesperson told BirminghamLive said: "We understand this is a concern for drivers and are currently investigating this issue."

To a degree yes, but what would they do if their speedos stopped working?

Just drive as fast as they like and blame the points on their licenses down to technology?

Makes it sound like that's happening because of the map issue, but it's a totally different thing. It's the age-old 'hiking' or dead mileage problem, or whatever it's called. Nothing to do with out-of-date mapping.

I'd also put it down to uber car aimers not having a clue where they're going. They're the world's worst.
