Wokingham taxi driver sued for over £200k as horror crash leaves woman in coma https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/news ... oman-coma/ A young Wokingham woman has launched a High Court claim through her father for more than £200,000 against a local taxi driver who crashed his cab while she and her boyfriend were in it. Holly Avery, had to be cut out of the Ford Galaxy taxi which was driven by Abid Mehmood, also of Wokingham, after it hit a kerb and bollards before colliding with a street lamp and rolling over, according to a writ issued at the court in London and just made publicly available. The writ says that when she was freed from the vehicle Miss Avery, 20, who was seriously injured was taken by air ambulance to the neuro-intensive care unit at University Hospital Southampton in a coma. The accident was on July 24 2021. Her injuries included a brain haemorrhage, head and facial fractures, a right fractured elbow, and fractures of her left lower leg and ankle. Miss Avery, of 35 Gipsy Lane, Wokingham, has launched the action through her father Paul Avery. Her claim is against driver Abid Mehmood, of Shinfield, Wokingham, and also against insurers IQUW Syndicate Management, of Lombard Street, London EC3. The court papers say that among other things Ms Avery spent five days in an induced coma, needed antibiotics for suspected hospital-acquired pneumonia, and underwent various operations on her injuries. Two weeks after the crash, she was transferred to intensive care at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, before being moved to the acute stroke unit for rehabilitation, and then the neuro rehab unit at West Berkshire Community Hospital. The writ says that her prognosis is uncertain. Mr Mehmood is accused of failing to keep a proper lookout, driving too fast, failing to control his car as he approached the junction with Loddon Bridge Road to avoid hitting the kerb and losing control, and failing to use reasonable care and skill when driving. Miss Avery is seeking damages, and provisions which will allow her to return to court to seek for more compensation if her condition worsens in the future. |

Is the claim against the driver or his insurance company? |
