I was told an interesting true story today, about an incident at the airport not uncommon, and the drivers attempt to prove his point.
It is a long story, so I'll cut it short.
POLICE
A driver after dropping off his passenger at the airport, ran into the toilet for a pee, and on return found a parking ticket attached to his windscreen.
To say he was dissapointed is an under statement.

CAMERA
Being a tad p*ssed off the driver had noticed on several occasions police cars parked outside the terminal in different locations whilst their dedicated parking bay was empty. " They must be illegaly parked " he thought, so he started to take photo's of these police vehicles. When he thought he had enough, he past them on tothe authorities asking the obvious question.

ACTION
The driver in question was called up to the cab office and told that these vehicles where on emergencies, and if he takes anymore photographs, he will be banned from the airport.

I asked the driver to approach the evening news about the incident, but he is reluctent to do so in case there are reprecussions.

40 photographs over one weekend, Thats 40 emergencies

your thoughts please

Anyone banned from the Airport can appeal to the courts, as was the case at Heathrow some years ago.

Telling his story to a newspaper reporter is unlikely to instigate a ban and the reporter could most likely obtain details of all emergencies on that particular weekend as all such emergencies are probably logged.

If the exercise of taking photos was meant to show a flagrant disregard by the police for Airport bylaws, then the cab driver has the perfect opportunity to highlight this in the press.

We should be all taking note and photos as well of all infringements at the airport by other users, after all it seems this is what they are trying to do to us. and indeed are using as evidence we should not have a presence there. Time to fight back gents, not withstanding a charm offensive of course

There seems to be a problem in London with Police vehicles parked on ranks, then again NSY seems to be addressing it through Dave Hillisons involvement.

Surely isn't that what one of the many unions/associations you have up there should be dealing with. I would love to see or hear them fighting for the lads every now and again.

As for the issue, well it seems that most things at that airport stink, and this is no different.

Its funny when people cannot sustain an arguement or discussion, they always revert back to the 'its a wind up' bit.

Thanks jd, I'll pass that on.

The drivers main concern is that it will not be him barred but the taxi he drives, thus effecting other drivers of that taxi

ross

you know the black uniform makes them think that they are god and can do as they please.

problem your friend might have if he takes it further is when his cab comes up for a cab test or if its spotted bye the cab office/police when its out working the streets.

i think you friend is quite right to be p1ssed of about it but has to ask himself if its worth all the hassle to take it further.

maybe a myth, but can hackney drivers not open the rear door to shield them and then relieve themselves in the street.

I'm pretty sure everyone can do it, alas they are liable to get nicked if they do so.
