So their business plan, in an area with works coming out of their ears, is to lower prices and end Xmas surcharges.

Very much doubt drivers will be queuing around the block. #-o

New Hull taxi firm promises cheaper fares and better conditions for drivers

A new taxi firm called "WER2 Hull" will be launching on November 14 and the owners have big plans to make taxi journeys less costly for customers and more attractive to drivers.

Business partners Steve Barley and Thomas Tozer have set up a newly-renovated office on Walton Street in west Hull and want to fill the gap in the market for commuters on that side of the city. They believe that it can currently be a nightmare to get a taxi in Hull so have launched plans to encourage more drivers to operate in the area, as well as offering fares 50p a mile lower than other competitors.

Although Steve admitted it hasn't been easy, they are determined to invest in the community and bring great customer service and loyalty to staff to the table. They are also launching an 'Uber-like' app, as well as having telephone operators, for the most convenient experience when booking a taxi.

Steve said: "I have worked in the taxi industry for around 15 years and know how frustrating it can be for drivers to make money and how costly it can be to operate. That's why our drivers will never pay more than a £100 running in fee a week, compared to around £220 they would have to pay at other firms.

"We also have a package set up for new drivers so after three months, they will have a week free of running in fees, at six months we will pay for their license renewal and at a year we will give them a £200 bonus. I am a massive advocacy for loyalty and hope this way of working will bring more taxi drivers into the industry in Hull, making it easier on our customers to get a great service.

"As well as our drivers getting a proper fighting chance at making a living, rather than being forced to work ridiculous hours, we also want to improve the customer experience. As well as having our own Uber-like app, we are hiring telephone operatives so locals don't have to speak to an automated machine when booking a taxi."

Steve is ready to operate fully ahead of the Christmas season with no holiday hike ups. He will provide day fares at the most competitive rate in the city, then night fares will be slightly more expensive- still lower than other companies but high enough to make sure drivers find the night shift worthwhile.

The business partners also have plans to give back to their local community in the best way possible. Thomas used to work with the fire service, so they hope to donate a portion of annual profits to a fire charity, and they are also installing a much-needed community defibrillator on their office building.

They're still plugging the 50p per mile discount. That'll get the drivers flooding in :?

WER2 taxis open for business promising Hull an 'honest' and 'old school' service

Hull's newest taxi firm WER2 has officially opened for business, with its owners promising the people of Hull an "honest" and "old school" taxi service.

Business partners Steve Barley and Thomas Tozer have set up a newly-renovated office on Walton Street in west Hull and want to fill the gap in the market for commuters on that side of the city. They have launched plans to encourage more drivers to operate in the area, as well as offering fares 50p a mile lower than other competitors.

The team at WER2 want to bring the personal touch back to taxi service in the city and address the lack of reliable taxi provision. Following their grand opening event today on Walton Street, WER2 Hull is finally open for business.

Speaking to Hull Live, Steve said: "We're trying to change the industry a little bit and give the people of Hull a better service. We want to go back to the old days where you actually ring an office and speak to an operator, bringing back a bit of that personal touch.

"We want to create a happy network because we feel at the moment in the taxi industry that it's all just negativity. People are being told one thing and getting another, whereas with us, you ring and you get an honest answer."

Steve continued: "In terms of helping this community we've paid for a community defibrillator that is now registered with the NHS. The reason for this is that Tom and I are both ex-services, with Tom serving 17 years in the fire service, so it's quite close to our hearts. We've also introduced a blue light card 10% discount.

"We want to go back to the old school of taxiing - the fundamental basics of taxiing, you don't need to overcomplicate it. You have an operator on the phone, they answer the call, and they give the customer an honest answer.

"If they choose to have that car, you ensure that the car is on time, that it's clean, and the driver has people skills. Honesty and integrity will drive this business forward."

In closing, Steve said: "It's all about getting that crossover between happy drivers, happy customers, and a happy office. If we can connect those three things together, then we're laughing.

"Give us a chance to show you what we can do - we might not always be able to get a car immediately, but we will always give you an honest answer. We're here for the community and we just want to help the people of Hull get from A to B."

You can book a taxi with WER2 by ringing 01482 770077 or by visiting their office on Walton Street. You can find out more about WER2 by clicking here.

This might look like it's about app bookings, but looking at the comments it looks like it's also about automated phone bookings and 'speaking to a machine'

As opposed to a dishonest and new school version?

Is that the norm for Hull then?

Anyone who thinks drivers are happy doing cheap work is a numpty, and that's me being polite.
