A taxi was left mangled after yobs threw stones at passing cars - forcing its driver to swerve into a stationary vehicle. Pictures show the aftermath of the terrifying collision, which a local councillor said could have killed somebody.

Kingshurst councillor Marcus Brain, who rushed to the scene to help, said the incident happened following a report youths were pelting oncoming cars on the Solihull estate. Cllr Brain said despite being "very shook up", neither the driver or passenger were seriously injured.

In a picture sent to Birmingham Live, the car can be seen completely mangled. West Midlands Police said it was investigating the incident, which happened on Fordbridge Road shortly after 8 pm on October 17.

Cllr Brain said: "A group of kids were at the side of the road throwing stones at cars going past. It looks like they hit the windscreen of the taxi. The taxi then veered and hit a van which was parked on the side of the road."

The local representative added he wanted to share the story - which could have had disastrous consequences - to highlight the impact of closures of youth services. The area's youth club hasn't functioned properly for years and Cllr Brain said youngsters had been "shut out of facilities".

He added: "If the taxi driver had a passenger in his passenger seat they would have been really badly injured. The car was absolutely mashed up.

"These are the children we have been trying to engage with because they are fairly young. What I want to do is highlight the lack of amenities which is causing the problems. We're trying to lobby and campaign on that."

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We received reports of youths throwing objects at vehicles on Fordbridge Road in Kingshurst, shortly after 8 pm on October 17. A number of vehicles have been damaged in the incident including a taxi which was in collision with another car. We are currently investigating."
