A taxi driver was reportedly racially abused and then assaulted in a late night attack.

Cleveland Police has launched an appeal to trace two people after a racially aggravated common assault in Norton. Officers said the incident happened around 9.30pm on Sunday, October 30, as two passengers were being transported in a Skoda taxi next to Nisa on Norton Road.

The driver, a man aged in his forties, was racially abused before being grabbed from behind and assaulted. The passengers then made off without payment.

Officers believe there were two people nearby who may be able to help with the investigation. They were wearing fluorescent jackets and riding pedal cycles.

The first suspect is described as a white male, around 5ft 8” tall, of slim build and wearing all black and a black cap. The second suspect is described as a white female, around 5ft 6” tall and of large build.
