'Young lad' is the fire service description, not mine.

But the phrase 'young lad' suggests the comment was made by someone close to the scene rather than the fire service's comms department.

And the article says the young lad collided with the traffic light and the taxi, so a bit of blame apportioning there :-o

Anyway, the eminently predictable age group and timing for this sort of thing...

Two people are believed to have gone to hospital after an early hours crash between a taxi and another car in Bolton town centre.

Crews from Bolton Central Fire Station arrived on the scene at Bradshawgate at around 3.30am on Saturday morning.

There they found a car, which appeared to have been driven by a young man in his 20s, had collided with a taxi and a traffic light.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “There was a young lad, around 22, who was in the car on the pavement.

“With the taxi we had to open up the car with our special cutting equipment and the driver went in another car to hospital.”

He added: “The young lad was taken in a car to hospital."

People passing by noticed the incident and reported seeing two badly damaged cars.

One man, Danny Loynd, who was on his way home when he saw the accident, said: “I just saw the fire service cutting the car open.

“One car was further down the road and on the pavement so must have been some impact.”

Fire crews were on the scene for around an hour.

Another incident from Hull, but just the 'flipped' 'taxi' involved here by the looks of it. Piece makes it sound 'serious' one minute, and not so serious the next. But the final two paragraphs suggest the driver got out himself, was administered oxygen, but didn't need hospital treatment (I'm surmising). Not so sure about the use of 'small tools' and a 'trauma bag', though :-|

If anyone feels the need, there's five not-particularly-interesting photos on the Hull Daily Mail's website, but they're rendered ginormous on here, so the photo links aren't included below.

Crash drama as taxi flips over on Cranbook Avenue, north Hull

The accident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning

This is the moment a taxi ended up on its side when a "serious" crash closed a north Hull street.

Emergency Services were called to Cranbrook Avenue in the early hours of Sunday morning. The burgundy-coloured taxi had flipped on to its side following the accident.

Describing the crash as "serious", a witness said he thought the taxi was the only vehicle involved in the incident, though full details could not immediately be confirmed.

The driver managed to escape from the vehicle before emergency services arrived at around 12.08am. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene while police carried out door-to-door inquiries.

In a statement, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the accident involved a vehicle on its side and one man had "self released" prior to the arrival of fire crews. First aid and oxygen were given, while small tools and a trauma bag were used. The incident was left in the care of paramedics and the police.

Hate to be pedantic about this sort of thing, but it says the Hull accident happened on Sunday morning, yet the 'emergency services arrived at around 12.08am :-o

They certainly got there pretty quickly, and no doubt that could happen if they were close by. But I'd guess either the stated time is a tad misleading, or the accident actually happened late on Saturday night [-(

have we changed to 100 minutes in the hour now  oh and as the first one is from Lancashire in those parts everyone is a "lad" or a "lass"

No seriously though the first one sounds like an overconfident driver trying to race around town the second one may be the result of a driver being a bit tired after a long shift

either way i hope everyone involved makes a full recovery

Thanks for pointing out my typo, Edders. Should point out the post has been amended, just in case anyone reads it now and thinks I'm word perfect all the time O:) and wonders what you're on about.

But, yes, a definite clanger and quite amusing

But reminds me of a wee joke at your expense I thought about cracking yesterday... :P

That's a new Nicola Sturgeon requirement, to ensure Scotland no longer follow Westminster.
