REVIEW AFTER BOY'S DEATH IN COUNCIL CONTRACTOR'S TAXI

(THURSDAY JUNE 22)

THE death of an 11-year-old boy has prompted a council to review its policies and procedures.

Ashley Crouch, who lived in Winslow, was killed when the taxi he was travelling in was involved in a crash in December last year.

Ashley, who lived with his foster parents in Winslow, was travelling to Billing Brook School in Northampton when he was killed.

The school travel arrangements were made by Northamptonshire County Council, the boy's local education authority.

But unbeknown to the council, the taxi firm used by the council sub-contracted the work out to another taxi company.

Milton Keynes coroner Thomas Osborne recorded a verdict of accidental death at a recent inquest.

The council has since issued a memo to firms, telling them not to sub-contract work without prior approval from the council.
