Think Glasgow Taxis has about 800 cabs, so that's an average four mobiles per car in a year. Sounds about right.
Anyway, this kind of stuff is a mix of human interest journalism and PR.
Henry Hoover and 500 vapes among items left behind in Glasgow taxis this yearhttps://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glas ... g-25740639Throughout 2022, Glasgow taxi drivers have been returning thousands of items back to passengers - and new figures have revealed the most common, with some more bizarre than others.
Image: Glasgow Taxis/Glasgow LiveGlasgow taxis have revealed the tens of thousands of items left behind in cabs this year in new figures, and some are stranger than others.
Unsurprisingly, mobile phones topped out the list with 3,125 devices left in taxis over the year. One of the more odd finds from a taxi driver this year was a Henry Hoover, which was swiftly returned to its owner by Glasgow Taxis Ltd.
Dougie McPherson, Chairman of Glasgow Taxis Ltd, said: “Wee Henry was left behind in a taxi at the start of the year and for a brief period the loss left a vacuum in that customer’s life until we managed to facilitate its safe return.
“Only in Glasgow.”
Aside from the bizarre find, other items that were most commonly left behind included wallets or purses - with 1,560 found over the year. Next up was sets of keys, with drivers finding 1,300 over 2022.
Coming in fourth was jackets, with 1,040 found. Fifth was vapes/electronic cigarettes - with 520 found in taxis this year.
Where possible, drivers do what they can to return items to customers. If it can’t be done, they are brought to Police Scotland’s lost and found department.
Dougie added: “The most important thing to say about this is to reaffirm that drivers make every effort to get these items back to customers, as quickly as possible.
“If that’s not feasible, they are handed straight to the police. We all know what a pain losing phones and keys in particular can be - our drivers always do their best to get them returned.
“However, as you can see, these are chunky numbers and amount to quite a lot of time, so this story provides a good opportunity to remind people to take care and always check to make sure they have everything before leaving our taxis.”
