Slow policing day in Brampton as well, it seems. But not difficult to tell from the reaction here that it's a small town of 4,000+ people (part of the Carlisle City Council area).
But I think 'damage' is slightly understating what's been done to the bench

VANDALS have damaged a bench outside a taxi firm in Brampton.
After damaging the public toilets in Brampton and forcing them to close, vandals have now damaged the bench outside of the Airbus 2000 taxi office on Beck Lane in Brampton.
The bench was securely fastened by a chain and padlock to the metal window grills of the taxi office, but in recent days it has been destroyed and thrown across the lane.
Local residents say the bench was well used by elderly customers waiting for their taxis or visitors to the town centre taking a break from walking round Brampton.

Carlisle City Council took the decision to close the public toilets in the town centre to try and ‘break the pattern’ of vandalism in the area.
The public toilets have since reopened following their closure in the middle of last month.
In response to the vandalism allegations, A local Neighbourhood Policing Officer said:
“Anti-social behaviour is not acceptable on any level anywhere, the actions of a few can negatively impact the whole community
“We know from speaking to residents and undertaking community surveys, that anti-social behaviour is a local concern.
“Neighbourhood Policing Team have officers are regularly out on foot patrol in the areas highlighted, and we are carrying multiple lines of enquiry to identify those involved.
“Committing criminal damage and harassment can be offences, even at a low level. I would urge anyone responsible for these incidents to stop now and consider the long term effects of your actions.
“I would also urge parents and caregivers to speak to children in your care about the negative impact anti-social behaviour can have on victims, and the long-term consequences of receiving a criminal record.
“Please also have regular conversations with your children about where they are at night and what they get up to. The behaviour anyone under the age of 16 is the responsibility of the caregiving adult.”
