Find it hard to believe they checked 21 cars and found nothing. And that's police, LOs and DVSA :-o

And presumably the 'private cars' referred to in the final two paragraphs are ordinary motorists rather than private hire vehicles

If not, then a clean bill of health for 21 HCs would compare with seven advisories and four PHVs prohibited from being driven

But I suspect the t-word is used generically here, thus both sides of the trade got a clean bill of health =D> 8-[

(Photo worth a quick look, but too big for on here.)

More than 20 taxis have been stopped and checked in Tunbridge Wells during a multi-partner operation to ensure drivers are operating legally.

Officers from the town’s Community Safety Unit assisted the Driver Vehicle Standards Agency and borough council, during an evening of inspections to check taxis were roadworthy and adhering to licence requirements.

The operation took place on Thursday 8 December and led to spot checks on a total of 21 taxis. All the drivers were found to be fully compliant.

Plan your journey home

PC Andy Forrester said: ‘Operations like this are important in ensuring the public have access to taxi services in Tunbridge Wells which are operating legally and are safe to use.

'They are also important in identifying and deterring those who may pose as genuine taxi drivers but are actually unlicensed and who take away business from legitimate operators.

‘Unlicensed taxi drivers may also have criminal intentions, such as looking to exploit people when they are vulnerable through alcohol. The busy festive period is a reminder that it is always sensible to make prior arrangements to get home safely, by travelling with a friend or in a group if possible and by pre-booking a licensed taxi.’

Private vehicles also checked

Inspections were also carried out on several private vehicles, leading to seven advisory notices being given for minor defects related to number plates, tyres, and lights.

Four vehicles were issued with prohibition notices which prevented them from being driven away, as they were in a dangerous and illegal condition.

Delighted to see those cars get a clean bill of health.

I bet those doing the checking were absolutely gutted.

maybe those with issues got wind of this and managed to take the shift off ?

Or drivers in that neck of the woods are all conscientious about safety
