NHS worker disgusted as Uber slap them with £110 cleaning charge but says 'cab had no mess'

A lifelong NHS worker has blasted Uber for a South London trip where he was charged triple what he ‘should’ have been. John-Paul Cross, 40, was drinking in Clapham last night (December 23) when he decided to call it quits, grab some KFC, and go home to Kent.

But it wasn’t until he woke up this morning that he realised he’d been slapped with a £110.16 cleaning fee for mess he’s adamant wasn’t there. John-Paul’s sure there was no mess in the car as he’s recently had a tumour removed, meaning it took him around four minutes to leave the cab so he’d have noticed if something was wrong.

He said: “As I normally do, I looked in the cab to see if I'd left anything and there was no mess in the car and I left. The journey normally cost me £55, but on top of that £110.16 was added so it was technically triple the amount for the journey home.”

The 40-year-old, who's worked for the NHS since 2003, added that he asked for evidence of the ‘severe’ mess but couldn’t access the files. He has since requested them to be re-sent but is yet to hear back from the German giant.

He said: “I'm just disgusted that you charged me £110.16 for something that really wasn't there. There was no damage or mess in that car.”

An Uber spokesperson said: “For drivers who use the app, their vehicles are their place of work and any damage or mess can mean they are unable to continue working. Following further investigation we have fully refunded the rider in this instance."

Obviously the journalist thinks that because the word uber originates from German, it's a German company

But I suppose we've kind of lost track of the more mainstream use of uber (from the German über), as 'indicating the highest, greatest, or most extreme example of something'.

So I suppose it's an uber-clanger from the journo

And, I mean, 'is yet to hear back'?? :-o
