There's maybe more to this than is reported here, but as stated it looks like he got the FPN for nothing other than being drunk and incapable, sort of thing :-o

Imagine if that happened here - the courts would be full of them.

Or maybe it would deter people from getting so pished in the first place

Expensive taxi fare for man 'unaware' of where he lived

https://www.donegallive.ie/news/crime-- ... lived.html

A taxi driver dropped a drunk man off at Letterkenny Garda Station. The passenger was before Letterkenny District Court this week

A drunk Letterkenny man who was unable to tell a taxi driver where he lived was dropped off at a Garda station.

On November 5, 2021, the taxi driver presented to the front office at Letterkenny Garda Station.

The driver informed Gardai that a customer was 'unaware' where his address was.

Garda Adrian McBride investigated and detected a strong smell of alcohol from the front seat passenger.

Patrick Molloy, a 21-year-old of The Curragh, Lismonaghan, Letterkenny, had to be helped from the car and was unable to stand unaided, Sergeant Gerard Dalton told Letterkenny District Court.

He was arrested for an offence under Section 24 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994.

Molloy was cautioned and conveyed to Letterkenny Garda Station.

A fixed charge penalty notice (FCPN) was issued, but was not paid.

The court heard that Molloy has no previous convictions.

Judge Éiteáin [edited by admin] said that she found the facts proven. Molloy was convicted and fined €150. He was allowed five months to pay.

I suspect the FPN was for being Drunk and Disorderly due to his actions either in the cab or to the officer when he was asked to get out of it.

The idiot should have paid his ticket, but clearly he thought the fairies would make it disappear.
