Two men arrested after taxi driver ‘robbed’ in Oldham Two men have been arrested on suspicion of robbery after allegedly grabbing a taxi driver from behind and stealing his earnings. Shortly after midnight (Wednesday) a taxi driver was forced to pull over before being "grabbed from behind" by his passengers on Springfield Lane, Royton. The passengers stole the driver’s earnings for the night and some of his work equipment before fleeing on foot. The taxi driver was hurt during the incident but the injuries he suffered are not believed to be life threatening, police said. Two men, both in their 20s, are currently in police custody. Investigations are ongoing. Sergeant Matthew Adshead, of GMP’s Oldham division, said: “Our officers are determined to keep the community safe, and I hope that these arrests show that there is no place for these sorts of acts on our streets. “These sorts of incidents are always investigated thoroughly, and we are determined to ensure those responsible are held accountable for their actions.” Any information about this incident can be shared with GMP by calling 0161 856 5410, quoting log of 3790 of 29/03/23, or by using the Live Chat function on the GMP website at www.gmp.police.uk. Alternatively, information can be shared anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111. |

Can't be bothered looking them up, but not clear whether these are official GMP press releases, or faithful press rehashes. Either way, as Chris says they're basically about arrest then charge, and the repetition is simply because it's just rehashing the basic facts to make each standalone report read coherently. Of course, it's a bit annoying to people who read every article like this (or, more obviously, a series of daily reports on a court case) but police and press always have to assume to an extent that people are reading things for the first time. And, if a good time has elapsed between the reports, then the basic facts need to be repeated because most readers will have forgotten them. Also worth bearing in mind that in a newspaper or online news site, the two articles won't appear side-by-side, so the facts aren't so readily available to readers, hence need repeating. And, because they're both obviously either GMP news releases or press rehashes, they'll be bound by the contempt of court and right to fair trial stuff etc, thus just reporting the basic facts. And, as regards having to restate the facts because of the time between the two reports, is it interesting here that it's well over a month between arrest and charge. That's what stands out for me, although maybe it's not particularly long for this kind of thing
