Well this is short but sweet, but with one or two interesting features - incident happened on 26 January, appears in court and sentenced next day :-o

Suspended sentence, and no fine. So basically the punishment is the £200 compo payable to the driver.

Mathew Warner, 27, assaulted the man after he had pulled up outside his home

A man punched a taxi driver in the face in Peterborough while he was drunk. Mathew Warner, 27, assaulted the man after he had pulled up outside his home in Sprignall, Bretton, Peterborough.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, January 26. The victim had picked up Warner from Bourne, in Lincolnshire, after police had told him to leave the area as he was drunk.

He was arrested after the victim called police following the assault. Warner admitted assault by beating at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Monday (January 27), and was sentenced to six weeks in prison, suspended for a year.

He was also ordered to pay £200 in compensation to the taxi driver.

PC Harvey, who investigated, said: “The unprovoked assault the victim endured was awful. No one should be subjected to violence while trying to do their job, and I would like to thank the victim for contacting us as soon as he could.”

Have I just started to notice these things, or is it just because of the North Wales coroner case? :-o

Nothing to suggest police actually stuck him in a taxi, but they might as well have by the sounds of it, and it's a bit of a cop-out (excuse pun) simply getting rid of troublesome drunks that way, but of course we all know that that's how it all works these days, and something pretty serious has to happen before charges are brought [-(

Wouldn't be surprised if the kick off was about the fare though - about 16 miles in the early hours of Sunday won't have come cheap, which is why it all maybe happened when they got back to his front door ](*,)

Nah there's no point touching jobs like that to drive out to Bourne then take to Bretton and back to stamford is well over 30 miles round trip and the punters would expect to pay no more than £15 which is the going rate the Peterborough PH's charge for that journey. I was wondering though with the Bourne connection if he was one of The Warner family ?

Be very surprised if he hasn't also got unpaid work, a curfew, or some RAR days.
