A taxi driver's dash cam has captured the moment a woman straddling a man on a Plymouth Beryl Bike careers in front of his vehicle late at night in a risky manoeuvre. The taxi driver, who doesn't want to be named, was about to pull out onto Western Approach from Oxford Place when the the pair, reportedly drunk, were seen riding dangerously in front of him while laughing.

The taxi driver says at first it 'seemed funny' but then this turned to fear, when he realised they 'could have been semi-drunk or tipsy'. Now their actions have been slammed by the firm behind Plymouth's Beryl Bike roll-out, which has branded their actions as 'irresponsible'.

A spokesperson for Beryl said safety 'is paramount' for the company and added the couple's actions put their safety - plus other road users' safety - 'at risk'.

“Safety is paramount to us and we constantly review our schemes and processes to ensure they are being delivered as effectively as possible," said the spokesperson. The behaviour shown in the image is irresponsible and not only puts the safety of the two people at risk, it also poses a threat to pedestrians and other road users.

"We’d encourage anyone who witnesses our e-bikes being used irresponsibly to report it via support@beryl.cc with the exact time, date and location and we will take action if the user can be identified. When using our vehicles, we would always recommend wearing a helmet.”

The taxi driver had a passenger in the back of his vehicle at 10.52pm on Tuesday, May 23 when the pair were spotted. He said: "At first it seemed funny as they were laughing too, but then thinking about it I did worry about them, and after I saw the dashcam footage I thought they could have been semi-drunk or at least tipsy. [My] passenger noticed it too and laughed in shock."
