This isn't very exciting, but considering the chaos on other ranks in Fife, this all seems very hypocritical.

Traffic order updated for Queen Margaret Hospital taxi rank

Fife Council will tidy up the paperwork for a taxi rank at Queen Margaret Hospital and make it official.

Councillors at the City of Dunfermline area committee were told that NHS Fife have already painted lines and marked out spaces but the area is not covered or enforceable under an existing traffic regulation order (TRO).

The rank is next to the entrance for the minor injuries unit.

Lesley Craig, from the council's traffic management service, explained: "Although the Queen Margaret Hospital campus is privately run by the NHS, we do have a TRO in place for enforcement of all the double yellow lines, bus stops and disabled parking bays in the car park."

She added that they would have to amend the order, at an estimated cost of £2,000, to include the taxi rank.

Councillor Jean Hall Muir said: "This will be very much appreciated by a lot of people that don't drive or have cars.

"Hopefully, as part of this greatly improved signage, it will be clearer as to what the ambulance bays are, what are the drop-off zones, what is the taxi rank and and bus stops.

"It can get quite snarled up there and clear demarcation between the drop-off zones and taxi rank will still be needed."

Sounds a lot for shuffling a bit of paperwork, even assuming it includes some new signage etc that the council has to pay for. But who knows how the quantify costs like this :?

white line painting 2/3 blokes plus Lorry for the day probably costs a grand and no doubt the costings include other work all added in

Who knows how they actually cost these things, but I got the impression from the article that the lines etc had already been painted by the hospital, and that it was simply the paperwork and procedures that had to be completed:

And the council official simply said that they had to 'amend the order', which makes it sound like just paperwork etc. Even if they'd said 'implement the order', or whatever, then that might imply a bit more than simply pen-pushing and paper shuffling :?
