Note the highlighted words in the council's official press release, which make it clear that it's just a proposal at this stage Not particularly exciting, but interesting that there's been a bit of impetus here and elsewhere in this regard, which of course is the opposite of what's going on in the likes of Glasgow with its LEZ etc. A proposal to lift the restriction on cars older than 10 years to be used as taxis and for private hire is under consideration. https://www.n-kesteven.gov.uk/council-n ... sideration The General Licensing Committee at North Kesteven District Council is set to review and amend its Hackney Carriage & Private Hire Licensing Policy, with a proposal to remove the upper age limit for vehicles licensed by the Council. Currently the policy is not to licence any Hire Vehicle once it reaches its 10th anniversary of registration, unless it meets the exceptional condition criteria detailed within the policy. This age policy was previously introduced to offer some flexibility for the trade when licensing cars, balanced against the increased emissions concerns around older diesel vehicles. But now, following the tightening of emissions criteria under the VOSA MOT requirements, along which future proposals to further tighten the national emissions standards, the committee believes that a relaxation of the current age policy will offer more flexibility for the trade, whilst ensuring that hire vehicles, (which require testing to MOT standard every 6 months) still meet the strict national emissions criteria. The consultation runs until Monday, July 24 2023, after which the General Licensing Committee will consider any responses. Any comments should be forwarded to the Licensing team. |

Not sure I really understand that, at least in terms of the Euro 5/6 distinction that's usually applied in such matters. |

Locally when our council reduced the age limit to 5 years there was a big drop in numbers of vehicles being licensed and they had to revert back to the old rules. I suspect the same is true there and revenue from vehicle licensing has fallen so I'm guessing that this is an attempt to remedy that but dressed up in political spin to disguise that fact. |

You may have a point, Edders, but on a side note, what's the point of quoting what I said? My point that you quoted was about a specific detail, while your reply is about the thread generally... As I said elsewhere, quoting isn't compulsory
