Another one that could make drivers feel paranoid - this reads like the main grounds for suspicion were that the car was working out-of-area.

Of course, it's probable that that's just a pretence from police, and main grounds for suspicion were something else, but they don't want to disclose the real reason to protect someone?

Maybe the driver managed to tip off police, and the pretence about the car being under suspicion because it was out-of-area was just used to protect the driver.

I mean, if that was the case in certain parts of England, then police would be stopping cars all the time on suspicion of being on drugs runs :-o

And the Wolverhampton-plated drivers would be getting a very hard time 8-[

Helensburgh cops find man with drugs as Lanarkshire taxi stops in town

A MAN was caught with drugs in Helensburgh after being spotted getting out of a taxi registered to Lanarkshire in the town, say police.

Officers attended a property in Williamson Drive in Helensburgh at around 11pm on July 17.

There they saw a 26-year-old man getting out of a taxi which was registered to the Wishaw area, more than an hour away from Helensburgh.

Police say the man got back into the taxi a short time later and, due to his behaviour, he was stopped and searched.

According to police the man, from the Wishaw area, was found in possession of a small amount of cocaine, weighing 0.7 grams.

He was taken to Clydebank police office and made the subject of a full search before being issued with a recorded police warning.

Just a slapped wrist anyway. Don't have a clue about these things, but, I mean, less than one gram?

That sounds almost like it would be too small an amount to stand up in court in a prosecution anyway, but according to Google you can buy a quarter gram on the streets :-o

But I'm sure 0.7 grams of cocaine might mean something to someone one here in the context of criminal law 8-[

Maybe if the police were watching the house he was just picking up personal supplies from a dealer at the house. Perhaps the police thought he was collecting a larger supply to take back to wishaw but as cocaine is a class A drug posession of any amount is a criminal offence is it not ?

Edders, you could be right about the surveillance etc, but what stood out from the article was the emphasis on the fact that he arrived in a taxi and that the taxi was on an out-of-area job, both of which would normally be unremarkable, and which is why I suspect it was mainly to deflect from the real cause of suspicion etc.

As regards being a criminal offence, indeed, but I mean, whenever has anything other than dealer-level quantities been regarded as worthy of prosecution, except as part of a panoply of other offences, or other exceptional circumstances.

And, strictly speaking, there's what I think is a kind of de minimis defence for drugs, for example for non-usable quantities which may have been acquired accidentally.

Which is all maybe why the perp was just given a slapped wrist :?

My view is that the police never do a drugs stop randomly.

Someone somewhere points the finger.

As for the amount, yes the person could say they were for personal use.
