A taxi driver was injured in a crash in Blackburn which badly damaged the shop front of one of the town's oldest businesses.
The driver was treated for minor injuries by paramedics outside Hobkirk Sewing Machines, while other emergency services were also at the scene.
Police closed Darwen Street, from George Street to Darwen Bridge, after they were called at around 1.30pm on Wednesday.
The front of Hobkirk Sewing Machines suffered extensive damage, including smashed glass on the shop window and door and the front wall being pushed in.
The taxi’s front bumper was also damaged but nobody in the shop was injured.
The cab driver was travelling away from Blackburn town centre and towards Darwen Bridge.
He was helped from the vehicle by ambulance staff and could be seen being taken away in a wheelchair.
Cllr Tiger Patel was driving in front of the taxi in his own cab when the incident happened.
He said: “I was in front of him and he was on the right hand side and I was on the left hand side then all of a sudden I heard a bang.
“I parked up and I came to help him. He was unconscious and a family member came quickly.
“He appeared to be okay now.
“People in the shop came out and helped him. Two or three people were a very good help. They brought a pillow and everything."
He added: “He was not going fast at all. I wouldn’t say more than 20mph as the traffic light ahead of us was red at that time.”
Hobkirk staff at the scene said nobody was injured and they were praised for helping the driver, waiting with him until the emergency services arrived.
A spokesperson said: “That section of the shop was empty and nobody was in there at the time.
“It is a lot of damage but we are thankful nobody was hurt.”
Hobkirk Sewing Machines is one of the oldest businesses in Blackburn and celebrated its 120th anniversary this year.
Part of Darwen Street was reopened just after 2.15pm, although the lane heading into the town centre remains closed at this time.
Police confirmed they were called just after 1.30pm and a person was being treated for minor injuries.
