Not sure what to make of this :?

But at least it's a bit different. And the article comes to a sort of juddering halt, and you'd be forgiven for thinking that some of it is missing.

But I'd guess that's because the stuff is mainly in a three-minute YouTube video, and that's the focus of the topic rather than the article below.

So either visit the video via the link to the article below, or visit the video directly via the link I'll post below the article.

New Studies show that more than half of taxi drivers working in Sheffield are more reluctant to receive medical care

https://shefnews.co.uk/index.php/2024/0 ... ical-care/

Champions in Achieving better health in Sheffield report claims that most taxi drivers in Sheffield would like to improve their health.

Despite the vital role they play in our city’s transportation system, taxi drivers in Sheffield face unique challenges, both on and off the road.

As most taxi drivers are self employed, obstacles like long waiting times at the Gp and phone queues for booking an appointment prevent access to good health. Hence they are reluctant to take health as priority.

42 year old Azeeze – “We work long hours, often sitting for extended periods of time. It’s not easy, and sometimes, health concerns are put on the back burner.”

The study showed that taxi drivers are at higher risk for various health issues, including musculoskeletal problems and stress-related conditions. However, many are hesitant to seek medical care due to factors such as time constraints and financial worries

The reluctance to seek medical care can have serious consequences, not only for the drivers themselves but also for public safety.

Oops; apart from the obvious over-exposure in the footage at the start of the video, I think someone's made a bit of a boo-boo with the editing and, like the piece above, it seems to come to a premature halt before it really gets going :-o

But I think there's enough between the article above and the video to get a feel for what it's all about. And I doubt anyone in the trade would disagree with the basic thrust of it all.

Only thing, though, I'd say being self-employed in the 'gig economy' and all that means it's easier for most drivers to take time off for a medical appointment, or whatever.

So although in medical terms I've no doubt drivers face challengers particular to the trade, on the other hand I'd guess the hurdles to doing anything about it are the more usual problems of getting GP and specialist appointments, and the usual reluctance of males (worse than females, I think) to seek medical attention in the first place.

And ironic that the article mentions 'stress', while the photo they use to illustrate the piece reeks of possible stress to me; there's not much in the photo, but it suggests to me building works and chaos on the ranks, or similar

Anyway, I'd guess it all seems to be part of some academic or similar project. So not clear how much impact it would all have, but I'd guess that it would be pretty minimal, particularly in the current climate :-|

There are drivers down here who don't go to their GPs because they are worried the council will take their license away should they be deemed medically unfit. Usually concerning heart matters.

What I say to them is that dead people don't get licensed either.

I will say that my local council is brilliant and they fully understand the effect of not working has on drivers. Both mental and financial.

Clearly they won't relicense anyone that is deemed medically unfit, but they will go out of their way to get that driver back working, and even if that takes many months (in some heart cases years) they will not make the driver undertake another knowledge test.
