Covid led to one annual inspection, but it looks like all change in Glasgow from next year:

Specifically, taxis aged three years and under will require an annual inspection, those between four and six years will need two inspections per year, and vehicles aged seven years and over will be subject to three inspections annually.

At £54 (for now) a pop and an additional MoT, I'm sure this is all about public safety and nothing to do with revenue.

I used to pay £55 at my local testing station 2 years ago. so £54 is probably not excessive as a taxi test is more work than an MOT and I would say the proposals make some sense although the government reccomends vehicles which do high mileage are inspected twice annually.

Never really had a problem with Fife Council's fees for anything trade-related =D>

Except the £100 retest fee for annual inspection failures. (I think it also applies to spotcheck failures as well.)

Was standing outside the depot yesterday while mine was being done, and another driver came in for a retest - he'd failed on a rear tyre worn on the inside.

Was just chatting away to the driver, and the tester came out of the office, had a look at the new tyre, ticked the box, and, voila, that's £100, please It would have taken more time to do the card transaction for the fee than it took to inspect the new tyre.

Fortunately mine passed (particularly since it's a brand new motor) and I've never had to pay the £100 retest fee, but, I mean :?

I would contest that via the Ombudsman or the District Auditor (if you have something like that up there).

There is no justification for that, and it's coming across as a penalty rather than a license fee.
