This is on the Gazette's website, but this is the official Lancs Police Facebook post.

Nothing much about what happened, though, precisely :-|

We are appealing for witnesses and footage after a Hackney Cab driver was seriously assaulted in Blackpool.

https://www.facebook.com/BlackpoolPolic ... cale=en_GB

We were called to Whitegate Drive, Blackpool, at 11.37pm yesterday (13th March 2024) to reports of an assault which had taken place in Mythop Road around five minutes earlier.

It was reported that a Hackney Cab driver had been stabbed to the stomach inside his vehicle. His dashcam was also stolen.

The victim – a man in his 30s – has been taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Our dedicated team of officers have carried out numerous enquiries, including house to house, CCTV and other lines of investigations, and they are now appealing for the public’s help.

They particularly want to hear from anybody who has dashcam footage covering Mythop Road between 11pm and 11.30pm.

We understand that this incident will cause the community a great deal of concern. We want to reassure everyone that while work is ongoing to understand the motive for the assault this is very much being treated as an isolated incident.

We have increased reassurance patrols in the area as a precaution and if you have any concerns or any information which could assist our investigation, please stop an officer and talk to them.

Anyone with information or CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage which would assist our enquiries is asked to email forcecontrolroom@lancashire.police.uk or call 101, quoting log 1505 of 13th March 2024.

Call me cynical, but this drones on a bit, and the statement from the Go Fund Me page is the sort of thing that I switch off from before getting to the end...

And if the tables were turned, not sure the mean and moody vibe portrayed by the photo is the kind of thing I'd like if I was the victim...

If only because there aren't really any similarly mean and moody pics of me available

Over £1,600 of £2,000 target raised when I just looked, though, so great effort in that regard =D>

And by the way it looks like it's been progressing, they should easily surpass the £2,000 target...

Friends launch appeal after popular Blackpool taxi driver stabbed in horrific attack

"Adam, while simply carrying out his duty of safely transporting a customer from one place to another, was tragically stabbed"

A taxi driver who was serious condition after being stabbed in the stomach in a horror attack has been pictured for the first time.

The victim, named locally as Adam, was attacked in his Hackney cab in Mythop Road, Blackpool, on Wednesday (March 13) just before 11.30pm "while simply carrying out his duty of safely transporting a customer from one place to another".

Lancashire Constabulary were called to the scene before the victim, in his 30s, was rushed to hospital. He remains there in a "serious but stable condition". His dashcam was also stolen during what police described as an "isolated incident".

Patrols have been stepped up in the area and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV footage to contact them.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by fellow taxi driver Jeanette Burton in a bid to raise money to support Adam and his family. You can view it here.

A message on the page reads: "It is with heavy heart to hear the devastating news of the recent incident involving one of our own. Keep strong Adam you’re in the best place for recovery.

"Adam, while simply carrying out his duty of safely transporting a customer from one place to another, was tragically stabbed. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

"While Adam is in recovery bills don't stop and being self employed is hard hence why I have set this up to try and help. As taxi drivers, we often find ourselves in the role of the unsung heroes of our communities.

"We're not just drivers; we should be often referred to as the 4th emergency service. We lend a listening ear to those in distress, with many drivers offering support and comfort to those who need it most.

"We provide a vital service to our local community, sometimes being the lifeline for those who have been displaced from their homes or find themselves in distressing situations, and who need our taxi service to help them in times of need, get to a place of safety.

"Adam's ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the risks we face in our line of work. It's a reminder to us all to remain vigilant and mindful of our surroundings at all times.

"We must prioritise our safety and the safety of our passengers above all else also, which we all do, but we must ensure we are safe also. Let us come together as a community, which we are, and it is great to see so much support for Adam in his recovery, which is is heart warming, we all stand together and help each other.

"We need to ensure that incidents like this never happen again. Let's keep an eye out for each other, look out for any signs of trouble, and always prioritise safety above all else.

"Adam, we stand with you in solidarity, and we wish you a speedy recovery. Stay safe, everyone, and let's continue to be the guardians of our communities as we carry out our important work as taxi drivers, which is all about helping those who don't have transport get from A to B in a safe way, taxi drivers are here to help you, so respect those who are helping you.

"God bless Adam and family."

Detectives say they would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who believes they may have information which could help their hunt for the attacker.

A spokesperson for police said: "We were called to Whitegate Drive, Blackpool, at 11.37pm yesterday (March 13) to reports of an assault which had taken place in Mythop Road around five minutes earlier. It was reported that a Hackney Cab driver had been stabbed to the stomach inside his vehicle.

"His dashcam was also stolen. The victim – a man in his 30s – has been taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. We understand that this incident will cause the community a great deal of concern.

"We want to reassure everyone that while work is ongoing to understand the motive for the assault this is very much being treated as an isolated incident. We have a dedicated team of officers assigned to this investigation and there will be an increased police presence in the area.

"If you have any concerns or any information which could assist our investigation, please stop an officer and talk to them. The enquiry is still very much in its early stages and further information will be released as the enquiry progresses.

"Anyone with information or CCTV, ring door bell, dashcam or mobile phone footage which would assist our enquiries is asked to email forcecontrolroom@lancashire.police.uk or call 101, quoting log 1505 of 13th March 2024."

Some interesting additional details here.

Kind of getting the impression that there might be more to this than meets they eye...

Or at least the Gazette is making it sound that it's not a routine serious assault on a taxi driver.

On the other hand, I suppose this kind of thing isn't particularly routine when looked at locally, as opposed to readers on specialist sites like this :-|

Lancashire Police continue hunt for knifeman who stabbed Blackpool taxi driver

https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/news ... er-4562745

The knifeman remains on the loose and the resort's taxi drivers are "looking over their shoulders", fearing they might be next...

A manhunt continues for a knifeman who stabbed a taxi driver in Blackpool last week.

Lancashire Police have yet to make an arrest after Adam Hawes was stabbed in his hackney cab in Mythop Road last Wednesday.

Lancashire Police said there was "no update" when approached for further details today and confirmed no one has been arrested.

The force has not provided a description of the knifeman at this stage and has yet to issue a public appeal.

Resort taxi driver Jeanette Burton said the stabbing is a 'stark reminder' of the risks taxi drivers face in their line of work.

With the knifeman still on the loose, she said some taxi drivers in the resort are 'looking over their shoulders' and fear they could be next.

Jeanette has set up a GoFundMe on behalf of Blackpool's taxi drivers to support Adam during his recovery.

Jeanette said: "Adam's ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the risks we face in our line of work.

"While Adam is in recovery, the bills don't stop and being self-employed is hard, hence why I have set this up to try and help.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."

What do we know so far?

Hackney cab driver Adam Hawes, aged in his 30s, was stabbed in the stomach at around 11.30pm last Wednesday.

He was attacked by a customer who flagged him down and asked to be taken to Weeton Barracks.

While travelling along Mythop Road, the passenger asked to be let out so he could urinate by the side of the road.

He then ambushed Adam, who was sat in his driver's seat, stabbing him repeatedly in the stomach.

There were also reports that Adam was "injected with an unknown substance", but Lancashire Police has yet to confirm this.

The knifeman then snatched the cab's interior dash cam and fled, leaving the taxi driver wounded and bleeding behind the wheel.

Lancashire Police have not said whether cash or valuables were stolen, and have yet to confirm whether the incident is being treated as a robbery or random attack.

Fearing for his life, an injured Adam then drove five miles to Whitegate Drive in the resort where he stopped at a petrol station and sounded his horn, begging for help.

He was rushed to hospital in a serious condition. He continues his recovery in hospital where his condition is now described as 'stable'.

Last week, Lancashire Police said the investigation was in its early stages and "work is ongoing to understand the motive for the assault". The force said it is treating the stabbing as an "isolated incident" and further information will be released as the enquiry progresses.

A police spokesperson said: "We understand that this incident will cause the community a great deal of concern.

"We want to reassure everyone that while work is ongoing to understand the motive for the assault this is very much being treated as an isolated incident.

"We have a dedicated team of officers assigned to this investigation and there will be an increased police presence in the area.

"If you have any concerns or any information which could assist our investigation, please stop an officer and talk to them." Anyone with information or CCTV, ring door bell, dashcam or mobile phone footage is asked to email forcecontrolroom@lancashire.police.uk or call 101, quoting log 1505 of 13th March 2024.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but this latest piece seems a bit odd as well.

Didn't read it fully, but it kind of goes back to the original slightly rambling and schmaltzy GoFundMe post, but omits the interesting stuff in the second article above about the possible injection and driving miles to the petrol station for help :-|

And no update on the driver by the looks of it, and still the same stuff from the police about "The enquiry is still very much in its early stages and further information will be released as the enquiry progresses." Blah, blah :?

So if anyone's read the stuff above, I don't think there's a lot of point in wading through the piece below, but here's the link anyway, and worth a read if anyone is unaware of the case...

Blackpool Police

Earlier this month we asked for your help after a Hackney cab driver reported that he had been seriously assaulted in Blackpool.
We were called to Whitegate Drive at 11.37pm on March 13 to reports the driver had been stabbed to the stomach inside his vehicle.
The man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he remains for treatment.
Over the last ten days we have carried out numerous enquiries, including house to house, CCTV and other lines of investigations, and we are now confident that no crime has in fact taken place as reported and that no third party was involved in the incident.
The investigation is now closed.
Det Insp Matthew Frith, of Blackpool Police, said: “We understand that the reports of this incident will have caused the community a great deal of concern, but I can reassure you that we have carried out extensive enquiries and spoken to a number of people and have reached the conclusion that this incident did not take place as described and we are no longer looking for anyone else in connection with what happened.
“I am grateful to all those who came forward with information and would like to thank the community for their co-operation and understanding while we dealt with this complex inquiry.”

It gets messier still - this has been posted by the GoFundMe organiser.

Somehow doubt she was part of any scam involving the driver stabbing himself in the stomach and as a result still being treated in hospital (assuming, of course, that he was stabbed in the stomach, and that he's not still being treated for something else :-| )

But unsurprising, perhaps, that people are accusing her of being part of some sort of scam :-|

Nor surprising that it seems she's refunding all the donations, by the looks of it.

And this looks like it's been written in something of a hurry, or maybe in a state of stress, unlike the word-perfect original post on GoFundMe. But perhaps that's unsurprising either.

I am posting this a bit of an update after the police have released a statement regarding the incident with Adam,

I feel now after he backlash I have had this afternoon I need to justify my actions and my side.

I was not part of any scam and have had no involvement apart from setting up a go fund me page for a friend and colleague who was going to find himself in a situation financially after being self employed and off work. Which 90% of us would have been in we font have endless pots of money and it's hard being self employed !! It's been posted and said I was part of a scam from day one !!!

I can not comment on what the police have posted because I know as much as everyone else, I have obviously spoken to Adam who is upset regarding the post as this was not discussed when the police came to see him this morning with and update. Adam is taking advice regarding matter.

Due to being a number of complaints there has been a full refund placed to everyone who donated to the just giving page.

I thought I was going a good thing for a friend and colleague but clearly people think I had other intentions.

Blackpool taxi driver stabbed in Mythop Road believed to have harmed himself, say Lancashire Police

https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/news ... lf-4567999

A Blackpool taxi driver who said he was stabbed in the stomach by a passenger is believed to have harmed himself.

The cabbie, aged in his 30s, was found with serious knife wounds to his stomach after he pulled into a petrol station in Whitegate Drive at around 11.37pm on March 13.

An ambulance was called to the scene and he was taken to hospital, where he continues his recovery.

He told police that he had been stabbed by a passenger in Mythop Road who flagged him down and asked to be taken to Weeton Barracks.

The cab's interior dash cam, recording the driver and passenger, was allegedly stolen, but no cash or valuables were taken.

He then drove 5.5 miles to Whitegate Drive where he was found wounded and in a state of distress.

Lancashire Police remained tight-lipped about the subsequent investigation while detectives sought to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.

Today, the force confirmed that no crime has in fact taken place as reported and no third party was involved.

Lancashire Police said it would be inappropriate to comment at this time on whether it will seek to prosecute the taxi driver.

Police statement

A police spokesperson said: "Earlier this month we asked for your help after a Hackney cab driver reported that he had been seriously assaulted in Blackpool.

"We were called to Whitegate Drive at 11.37pm on March 13 to reports the driver had been stabbed to the stomach inside his vehicle.

"The man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he remains for treatment.

"Over the last ten days we have carried out numerous enquiries, including house to house, CCTV and other lines of investigations, and we are now confident that no crime has in fact taken place as reported and that no third party was involved in the incident.

"The investigation is now closed."
