Dig this for my idea of arriving in style!

STUDENTS at a Warwickshire school were impressed by this unusual mode of transport - which carried one of their friends to his leavers' prom. While pupils across the county were getting glammed up and choosing elegant stretch limousines to take them to their once-in-a-lifetime leavers' events, one schoolboy went for a chauffeur with a difference.

Farmer's son Jonny Wain arrived at Harris School in Rugby in a large JCB digger, with his dad Brian as chauffeur. Jonny, aged 16, was determined to come up with the most quirky mode of transport out of anyone at the school, and dug deep to come up with his unique idea.

And he is convinced his idea was the most unusual on the night, followed closely by a classmate who turned up in a private-hire fire engine. The teenager, who lives in Grandborough, said: "I was going to arrive by tractor, but that had been done before at Harris. After speaking with a friend, I came up with the idea of the JCB.

"People were really surprised when I arrived - I pre-warned only a few friends, so it was a big surprise for most." Adam Mosley, acting deputy head teacher, said: "Our enthusiastic students are always keen to go the extra mile - but not usually in a JCB digger. "The competition has become so intense for the prom mode of transport that Harris may turn the event into a prize-winning competition."

Jonny is now awaiting the results of his GCSEs and is hoping to go on to take a college course in countryside management. He said that though he would like to pursue a rural outdoor career he did not want to follow his father into farming.
