A MAN has been jailed for six years and nine months following a violent assault on a taxi driver in Coventry.
On April 29, Artur Nowostawski was picked up by a taxi from Coventry Railway Station, before driving towards Bennetts Road South.
He then attacked the driver with a knife, hitting him in the neck and chest a number of times and demanding money.
West Midlands Police issued a wanted appeal for the 40 year-old and he was arrested a day later.
He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon at Warwick Crown Court, and on August 6 and was jailed.
DC Jack Phillips from Coventry CID, said: “This was an unprovoked and sustained assault which left the victim with serious injuries.
“They were lucky not to be more seriously hurt, and are now thankfully on the road to recovery.
“This case took quick work from the officers to identify Nowostawski and arrest him in order to bring this case to court, and I’m glad he has been put behind bars for a significant period of time.”
