Man charged in connection with St Andrews taxi rank assault

Police were called to an alleged brawl early on Sunday morning.

A 53-year-old man has been charged following reports of a brawl at a St Andrews taxi rank at the weekend.

Police were called amid allegations of an assault on a 45-year-old man in the early hours of Sunday.

It followed an alleged altercation in Bell Street in the heart of the university town.

Fife Council previously said it works closely with police to investigate complaints.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A police spokesperson said: “Around 12.15am on Sunday June 9, police received a report of the assault of a 45-year-old man on Bell Street in St Andrews.

“A 53-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”

Which is why I always think stuff like 'works closely' is garbage PR speak rather than anything meaningful, as readers of the recent thread might appreciate, never mind lots of stuff I've posted about the rank in the past.

On the other hand, it might be strictly true in relation to the investigation into this, but as regards managing the rank generally, it's essentially a flat-out lie [-X

Anyway, and as per usual, it's not clear from the statement whether there was any trade involvement.

Apart from the stuff posted on another thread, even if I'd read the above without any knowledge, I'd have guessed there was no trade involvement from what's said above.

Funny thing, too, there were a couple of police vehicles at our other night rank about a month ago, and that was supposedly about an unlicensed driver or something like that. Which again, is not something I'm aware of happening here before. Or, at least, not police descending on the rank mid-evening, sort of thing :?

And that's another clue that it involved the trade - why would Fife Council be mentioned if it had just been about late-night drunks rather than taxi drivers?

(Although I doubt the statement is recent - "previously said" - and nothing to do with the incident, and just added by the journalist who of course will be aware it involved drivers, although not directly mentioned in the piece.

Well he's still on the road - and claiming self-defence, apparently. The other driver hit him first, allegedly, which is presumably why he had to kick the side of his car etc

But, aye, he's still working, but if you're caught with a number plate bulb out (say) you're up in front of the licensing committee having to explain yourself.

(The incident this thread was about has nothing to do with this below, but didn't think this merited a new thread, and this was the closest relevant thread I could find...happened just down the street...)

Anyone remember the video and article about the takeaway beside our main rank in St Andrews?

Even in the video there were a couple of red flags, in my opinion. (Not to mention a shedload of other stuff evident even from outside on the rank.)

Anyway, think I deleted a lot of that stuff (or at least, can't find it now), just in case anyone was reading 8-[ :-$

But maybe some vindication recently [-(

This was the original advertorial stuff, or a direct link to the video:

https://content.jwplatform.com/previews/aqYpNqPA
(And that's on a quiet night. Video is only 1.5 minutes, and not the 4+minutes suggested by the video player...)

Anyway, this has happened recently :-o

Big Boss ‘sex assault’ claim

A St Andrews takeaway boss is to stand trial over claims he sexually assaulted young girls in his business.

Ugur Emre, 42, is also accused of making sexual remarks to other girls as well as selling them alcohol and vapes at Big Boss on Bell Street.

It is alleged that Emre sexually assaulted one girl by seizing her body and kissing her on the head before indecently touching another, seizing her on the head and seizing her body.

Emre, of Market Street, is charged with making sexual remarks to both as well as making sexual remarks to three other girls.

He faces separate allegations relating to alcohol licensing and the sale of vapes.

Prosecutors also allege that Emre enabled staff members to work single, continuous periods in excess of 13 hours.

Solicitor Lee Qumsieh tendered a plea of not guilty on behalf of Emre who appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court to deny the allegations.

Sheriff Clair McLachlan fixed a trial for February and released Emre on bail.

Recall that in the advertorial he bragged:
Quote:
The dad-of-two is confident these outlets will be equally popular. “I work 19 hours a day to make this happen,” he says.

I recall being in town one morning about 5am the summer before last, so it was broad daylight by that time.

Passed his car and noticed a hand being raised in front of the rear side window - must have been him (or maybe someone else) kipping in his car all night. (Parked on the rank obviously, but by that time there are rarely any taxis around to use it.)

Not sure about how vapes are regulated, precisely, but pretty sure they gave him a licence to sell alcohol even after the video above etc, and I'm sure he'd already been shut down at least once.

And Police Scotland had originally objected to his licences, but councillors decided to give him them anyway

He also had a taxi for a while, which he used so he could park on the rank opposite the takeway and used it for deliveries (both bringing raw materials in, and the normal takeway deliveries out).

When the shop was opened just after lockdown, I wondered why it was called Big Boss? Think he was trying to tell us something

He calls himself Jack the Lad - I mean, I thought that was an insult, while he views it as a badge of honour :-o

Check out the sign above his head towards the end of this short video (or Facebook 'reels', I think they're called - very short videos of only a few seconds...):

I mean, is this kind of thing normal for takeaways? :-s

He obviously thinks he is the main man.

Let's see how the court view him.

Whatever made you think that?
