Night of enforcement cracks down on parking in Cleethorpes taxi ranks https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news ... ng-9435962 Private vehicles parking in a taxi rank have been targeted during an evening of enforcement by Trading Standards officers in Cleethorpes The North East Lincolnshire Council team issued nine Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) in Cleethorpes while patrolling taxi ranks on Grant Street and in the Market Place to raise awareness of the rules and regulations drivers must follow. Both locations have clear signage, with yellow cross-hatched lines and the word 'taxi' running through the middle. The Market Street taxi rank prohibits stopping between 6pm and 6am except for taxis, while Grant Street is a no-waiting zone at all times except for taxis. Recently, the council's Trading Standards team has been alerted to issues with taxi drivers struggling to find parking due to other vehicles occupying these spaces. These taxi ranks are crucial in ensuring people use licensed, safe taxis. As a result, members of the WiSE and Council's enforcement team issued a total of nine PCNs for various reasons. Eight were given to private vehicles parked on the taxi rank, and one was issued for a car stopped on a pedestrian crossing. Wayne Crouch, chairman of the Hackney Carriage Association, commented on the situation, saying: "The Hackney Carriage Association have been concerned about the problem. The taxi trade are concerned about private cars and delivery drivers parked on designated taxi ranks. "We are concerned for the public safety getting into fake taxis and are in support of the council's actions." Councillor Ron Shepherd, Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, added: "People should feel safe when using taxis in the borough and the licensing regime exists to protect the public." "The council takes its responsibility for ensuring public safety very seriously and we work with the taxi trade to offer advice and guidance when necessary." |
