Police have appealed for information after a Glasgow taxi driver was robbed of his car at knife-point by two men who later crashed into a tree.

Officers said a taxi driver was threatened after two men flagged him down in Langbar Crescent near to Edinburgh Road in Easterhouse, at around 11.35pm on Thursday. One of the men presented a knife before making off in the blue Skoda which was later found abandoned after crashing into a tree near to St Lukes Avenue in Carluke.

A second vehicle was reported stolen from outside a property in Lanark Road in Carluke, in the early hours of Friday morning. A black Mercedes EQB was later found abandoned in Hallhill Road, in Barlanark, near Glasgow. Officers believe the incidents are linked and are appealing for witnesses including people who were waiting at a bus stop on Edinburgh Road at the time of the incident.

Detective sergeant Scott McNulty said: “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding this robbery and we are appealing for any potential witnesses to get in touch.

“From CCTV it is understood that a number of people were waiting at a bus stop on Edinburgh Road at the time of the incident and we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened.

“We would also urge anyone who may have seen a blue Skoda taxi or a black Mercedes EQB being driven erratically in the Carluke area in the early hours of Friday morning, or who may have dash-cam footage of significance, to please come forward.”

Glasgow doesn't have Skoda taxis - probably a PHC.

I'm guessing the Merc was stolen because they crashed the Skoda in Carluke. It all seems a bit extreme to end up a 5 minute drive from where you started.
